  1. There's not just one way to address my Dai-Soke. I've been with him for a very long time. Sensei: I would only use this when in the dojo while he's teaching. Mr./Mrs./Ms [surname]: I would only use this in most business transactions. Other times, he's referred to only as Dai-Soke. Both depends on the formality of the occasion. By his or her first name: I would only use this when it's him, other very close students/friends, as well as myself. This of course would be a very informal occasion. Over the many years, he's my dearest friend first, and he's my Sensei/Dai-Soke second. Nonetheless, respect is always shown on both sides of the table at all times. Good topic!
  2. No sir, not at all! There are two things that discribe fake in pro-wrestling, other than the pre-arranged outcome. Everything that they do is called a "Work". The other thing is called "Stiff", and this is when receipts are given/taken. A working punch is a very light tap. A stiff punch is not a light tap; it's more solid. Yet, a stiff can also be as hard as one desires because it's deliberate for one reason or another. The written rule is to hit hard when a wrestle is right next to the crowd. Whether a wrestler is right next to the crowd and/or in the ring: Convince the first 3 rows and the entire house believes. Because most wrestlers are big, that's why they "work" each other and the crowd. For the most part, an entire match is using "working" materials. They protect one another because they've got, especially in the WWE, to wrestle over 300 times a year. One can't wrestle that long, year after year, by being super-stiff. Get a rep that you're always stiff, then you'll not get booked anywhere...ever. Being stiff is fine, when it's required, but, being stiff for no reason(s) will get a wrestler black-balled from the business.
  3. Well, there's always the 100-man kumite as a training tool. I'm of the crowd that says...run at the very first opportunity when faced with multiple opponents. Life isn't a movie!
  4. Yes! Lakers win the series with the Suns and now, it's off to the finals against the Celtics. Hopefully, the Lakers don't repeat their last meeting when the Lakers lost the Championship series 4-2. Time, not much, to rest some weary players. GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!
  5. In the martial arts, it can be applied to those who teach, especially with so many kids taking MA. For martial arts instructors, the ethical question is, "What do we teach the young?" The tenets of the martial arts; Coutesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control, Indomitable Spirit, and Victory.
  6. I enjoyed how you said "my first proper" when discribing your tournament. Why? Because there's not many properly ran tournaments these days. I applaud you!
  7. Here Mr_obvious' link, if you don't mind... http://www.nightofjoyvintage.com/shop.php?crn=223&rn=984&action=show_detail Just helping. For a bath robe, it is nice, nothing fancy, just a real nice robe.
  8. Check out this link.... http://fighting.net/main.php?page=seminar Notice the 3 Guarantees? 1. You will be provided with over 15 hours of the best martial arts training you have ever had. 2. Without a school we will show each of you how to clear $72,000 a year working 2 days a week as a Martial Arts Instructor. 3. By Sunday each of you will be fully certified in our Law Enforcement Force Continuum and Edged Weapons Defensive Tactics Programs. Is 15 hours plus enough? Your opinions?
  9. Maybe, if the student considers her/his instructor(s) "accomplished", than that's the only thing that matters to that student.
  10. No, because both of their experiences together adds up to mean something. Both are of great value to the entire student body.
  11. Lakers lost again...ouch! Series tied....2-2. Now we go back to The Staples Center for game 5. GO LAKERS!!!!!!!!!!
  12. Yes....I do see that now. Never mind Martialart what I said. I apologise! Time to remove my foot from my mouth!
  13. Yeah. I've never seen nor have I ever heard of this before. I too, would guess that the tape would add support to the wrist. How much? I don't know that either. I personally have never used any type of tape on myself before doing any tameshiwari. I take that back. I now remember having seen that before when I was watching an ISKA breaking competition. Still, I don't know why they'd wear the tape. Possibly for looks.
  14. Thanks for those answers...and I concur with you Patrick from what I know about KF. It's [KF] the most solid of any and all martial art forums found anywhere in the internet.
  15. That might makes right. Something all bullies already know. Bullying a bully makes the bully worse--maybe not to you, but later on to someone else. When did I ever say that? I know when...never. I don't approve of anyone bullying anybody at anytime for any reason(s) because two wrongs don't make it right. Especially in class!
  16. I appreciate that Brian. I just feel ashamed at times, and maybe it's that I'm furious at those type of high Dan's because of their inappropriate actions. It's the old saying...One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. Again, thanks Brian! But that said, you are quite keen for people to know that you are a senior grade. [edit] within your group - just saying ) Chitsu In this topic, we were recently talking about how some high Dan's act towards their lower ranks by trying to keep lower ranks under their thumb, so to speak. I don't mention myself at any time, in any way to show-off [i'm nobody special] or to show my superiority [i'm superior to nobody, especially in "my group"] or for any other negative reason. That's just not me; past, present, and/or in the future!
  17. Imho, this is an inappropriate way for any black belt and/or any instructor to act/react to that type of situation, especially during class. What did that really teach the entire class? One who isn't the instructor has no business taking corrective actions on their own. Matter of fact, the instructor has no business taking corrective actions, and that's what that was imho, in class because instructors have, or should have, other professional methods of disciplining their students. To cause a student, especially a minor student, to cry isn't how we're suppose to help our fellow martial artists. To bully a bully in class would've led me to tell that black belt to go home for that day because this isn't how these type of situations should be dealt with in class; not by any black belt or any rank, and not by the instructor. How would I have handled that situation? It's simple. I would've quitely instructed that bullying student as well as the parent into my office immediately, and then I would've suspended that student for a week minimum for bullying and I would've explained to that student and parent why bullying isn't allowed in my dojo. In that, I would've also explained why bullying isn't an appropriate action for anybody to display, especially for a martial artist. Bullying and the martial arts are a oxymoron, and therefore, they should be treat as such.
  18. Are there explanations that you'd accept? At this moment? At their ages? No! They've other ways to address their situations other than starting the fight.
  19. That's a good point. I've talked with a few who normally attend Kanazawa Sensei's Seminars, and they say that Kanazawa Sensei conducts OPEN Seminars for all styles of the martial arts. This is an interesting point because if one isn't familar with the Kata's, for example, that Kanazawa Sensei will practice/drill on, how's one going to benefit from it? Kanazawa Sensei know Kata's that I don't know, therefore, I'd probably just sit out that session. But, how am I benefiting by not trying? Good point Brian!
  20. Brian, Do you get a workout while Boxing on your Wii? My sister said that she gets a workout while playing Tennis on her Wii. Maybe this isn't such a far fetched idea after all. It bears some trying it.
  21. I appreciate that Brian. I just feel ashamed at times, and maybe it's that I'm furious at those type of high Dan's because of their inappropriate actions. It's the old saying...One bad apple can spoil the whole bunch. Again, thanks Brian!
  22. Well, Lakers made fast work of the Jazz. We're 2-1 over the Suns. I believe that we'll beat the Suns 4-1 games. Then we'll meet the Celtics in the Finals. That will be a barnburner. Celtics beat the Lakers last time they meet in the Finals. I sure hope that history doesn't repeat itself. PS> I'm craving some Jack In The Box......yummy. GO LAKERS!!!!!
  23. This is one of those points that I have come not to believe in when it comes to MA experience through training. I think that most 2nd dans have a pretty good understanding of what their style is about. It comes to a point where dan ranks become a crutch that higher ranks use to keep them around, because they "don't understand" yet. Yeah! Some high Dan's surely make the rest of us high Dan's look bad, and in that, we're sometimes lumped in with those type of high Dan's. Sometimes I'm ashamed!
