  6. Week #7 is in the record books! MNF will have the Cowboys hosting the Giants. I've no idea who'll win between these two, but, the Giants are on top of their division, yet, even though I'm a Cowboy fan, I'm a little bit pessimistic about the Cowboys' chance to earn the big 'W'. What about the Chiefs?! 42-20 over the Jaguars. Cassel was on top of his game with 2 in the end zone. This is how one gets back on the right track and that is by having the talent hitting on all cylinders. Chiefs showed me and the Jaguar's a thing or two. Awesome win! 8 close games this week and this is why I love the NFL. One of the close games shouldn't have went the way it ended. The Steelers beat the Dolphins but that's only because of the refs bumbled play at the end. Replay showed that Roethlisberger had actually fumbled the ball, but the refs went with the incorrect call. The Dolphins won that game period!! What is it with the refs of late? All of the Dolphin wins have happened while on the road, and all of the loses came while at home. We had 4 games of dominance. One I've talked about already, the Chiefs over the Jaguars. The most dominate game was the Raiders over the Broncos with a score of 59-14. When did this Raider team come from? 22 minutes into this game decided the outcome as the Raiders took all of the fight out of the Broncos quickly. The Broncos couldn't wait for this game to end, the faster the better. WOW!! 3 TD's decided it for the Titans over the Eagles. The Browns defeat of the Saints was helped by the 2 interceptions thrown by Brees. Bye Week Teams: Detroit, Indianapolis, NY Jets, Houston Bye Week Teams for week #8 will be: Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, NY Giants, Philadelphia, Baltimore Isn't it great to be a fan of the NFL?!
  7. A very solid post across the board!! As a retired competitor and arbitrator of many open traditional tournaments, I concur with each and everything that you spoke about; right on the money!!
  8. Seeing that only your Sensei out ranks you, then why is this guy asking you to kumite? Dojo ettiquite 101. Personally, I don't see that you did anything wrong; sweep him all day long if he allows it. If he doesn't want you to sweep him, then it's time to pay more attention on how to counter/avoid the sweep, especially when your dojo does/teaches sweeps, and your dojo has been doing/teaching sweeps forever. This sempai seems to prove what I say all the time... Not all black belts can teach!
  9. kanazawa actually still performs them according to their original names... lol, i find these things interesting his gojushiho sho http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLNddYfuH18 and his gojushiho dai and the reverse that most people (as far as i've experienced) perform gojushiho sho gojushiho dai Worlds apart.
  10. Congrats!! Feels great, doesn't it?
  11. I'm glad to hear that you're ok, because, that had to have hurt more than a little bit...OUCHY! You've found a new addition to the "Martial Arts Techniques and the 1,000 different ways to use them other than in the martial arts" book ...btw, this book title, to my knowledge, doesn't exist.
  12. That's pretty good advise/suggestions. I completely forgot about Rit's.
  13. By all means, congrats to the Rangers and the Giants for having done so well this 2010 season. This World Series has all the makings of being one of the best. Although I'm a Yankees fan, I'll be cheering for the Rangers; they certainly deserve all of my support!! Yankees...practice a lot and let's return to the World Series. If possible, can we please purchase the services of one CLIFF LEE!! GO RANGERS!!
  14. Forgive me for my lateness...CONGRATS and it's well deserved!!
  15. Yeah, Burnett WAS finished, and imho, he should've been pulled prior to that inning...but...no! The NLCS is now 3-2 in the favor of the Giants. I thought for sure that the Giants were going to the World Series in game #5...but...Haliday had other things in mind. So, we go back to Philidelphia. Interesting series thus far. The ALCS is worse than an out of control roller coaster. Yankees hanging on by the skin of their teeth. I don't envy their situation; the Yankees MUST win every game or their done with. Now, the Rangers, imho, don't want to go to a game seven with Cliff Lee on the mound because IF the Rangers go to the World Series, they'll need Cliff Lee in the first game of the World Series to set the tone. The Yankees aren't done...YET, but they've got one foot in the grave and one foot out of the grave. Saturday can't cmoe soon enough for me! GO YANKEES
  16. I've never lost a child. In that, I pray that I never will. My thoughts and my prayers go out to each and every parent that has ever had to endure this pain. October 10, 2010, a local newpaper, Tulsa World, published a story. To me, this story wasn't just another run of the mill type of story. No! To me, it was a means for the readers to get to know about a brave and special little girl named Tess. I got to know a little about Tess, her mom, Laura Gonsalves, and about her last day alive. This story touched me so deeply, and it still resonates in my inner-most being. So many personal and private experiences between Tess and her family on that day was gladly being shared with the unknown reading public; I was so grateful that I was amongst them, and I was so thankful to Tess' mom for allowing me to get to know Tess and Laura and the rest of Tess' family on her last day. Tess' courage and acceptance at 14 years old was more than a million adults conbined could muster. I don't know if I could've had Tess' resolve or courage or acceptance if I had been in her situation, especially on my last day. By the time I reached towards the end of the story, I was crying. However, when I finished reading the 9th paragraph, I was sobbing uncontrollable because of it's complete totality. Heaven must've needed a new angel! Here's the story... http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/article.aspx?no=subj&articleid=20101010_222_G3_ULNSor604275&archive=yes **Patrick, I hope that this is acceptable and that it doesn't violate KF's User Guidelines. If so, I'm truly sorry!!**
  17. Please realize that I too have never seen a double charge and the like for testing fees for when a student happens to fail; I was just playing devils advocate for the sake of the topic. Just as well, I too, wouldn't test anyone that hadn't earned the testing invitation. Again, I was playing devils advocate for the sake of the topic. Solid posts thus far....thanks!!
  18. WOW...OUCH...OMG...MOMMY!! The Rangers AND Cliff Lee dominated the Yankees...No...the Yankees got spanked by the Rangers. Petite gave up a 2 run homer in the 1st inning, but, after that hiccup, Petite settled down and did his thing very well. Then...came the top of the 9th inning...one run after another run....for the Rangers...6 runs to be exact...final score...8-0 at Yankee Stadium....MOMMY!! Cliff Lee was beyond solid...13K's, and gave up ONLY 2 hits...dominated the Yankees? No! Humiliated the Yankees!! I've got a ton of respect for Cliff Lee and the 2010 Rangers. I hate them still, but, I'm on my knees bowing to their abilities. Oh yeah, Josh Hamilton, please quite starting things...yeah...started the 1st inning by going yard for a 2 run bomb, and then he started the 6 run-fest in the 9th inning by a lead-off double. Holy moly batman! NOW I'M SCARED and a little WORRIED on the posibility of not getting the repeat championship for the Yankees! 2 more games at Yankee Stadium and then we're back to Texas, unless the Rangers continue their hitting dominance....freaks! AAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!! MOMMY [sucking my thumb] GO YANKEES!!
  19. MNF>>> I wasn't even close on the score I predicted...24-21...NOPE...it was the Titans, as I predicted, but the final score was...30-3. DOH!!
  20. The funny thing to me about Big Bear, CA is that IT'S NEAR LOS ANGELES, CA. One doesn't usually think of mountains that big near L.A.
  21. It happens often in martial arts schools...TEST DAY! Question to my fellow instructors.... When a student in a martial arts school fails a test, WHY?... A) Because that student(s) didn't demonstrate any marked improvement(s)! OR B) Because "I" can get another testing fee or something else by not passing that student(s). The majority of us, if not all of us, here at KF will pick #A for obvious reasons. But, here's the problem with #B, imho. This is what a lot of parents and the like think when their "Jane" or their "Tom" fails a test. Once a parent gets #B stuck in their heads; it's almost impossible to get them to accept #A. Is this mentality/mindset only from parents who are customers of McDojo's and the like? OR This mentality/mindset permeates more often than not from Non-McDojo's as well? The summation of "WHY" can be hard for parents to accept. Parents, once decided, only want to hear that their kid(s) have passed. The summation of "WHY" speaks about making improvements, and that speaks about WORK/EFFORT. That's alien to the parent as well as their child/children. "Why? You just want more money!" "Why? You just don't want to promote my Billy/Lilly to, pick a color, that belt because you don't want my Billy/Lilly to get a black belt!" "Why? You passed Gary/Shari, but you won't pass my Harry/Mary!" No matter the reason, to that parent, the instructor is dead wrong. Just as soon as the parent wins the arguement with the instructor; the parent becomes in charge of the testing board, hence, the instructor. It's very hard for parents/students to understand, and/or listen to the truth from their instructor? WHY isn't CAN'T! WHY is a path to CAN! Are you large and in charge? Or are the parents large and in charge? Not at my dojo/Hombu...EVER!!
  22. Good point! Kathy trained with Eric Nolan from Bakerfield, CA at one time.
  23. Rosetta Stone has a kanji tutorial as well? Go figure...cool!
  24. Imho, there's nothing like teaching kids!! Congrats, and you'll find just how fun it is across the board, if you haven't already!
