  1. Welcome to KF!!!!!
  2. I knew that when I started this thread that there would be some difference from one style to another and from one practitioner to another. Whether one would agree with your definition or not wasn't important to this thread. No. What was important to this thread was to know what "YOUR" definition of EFFECTIVE was, and that alone.
  3. Welcome to KF!!!!! Could you tell us a little about yourself?
  4. How about them Jets?!! How about them Jets?!! How about them Jets?!! HOW ABOUT THEM JETS?!! Jets VS Colts...17-16...JETS WIN...this was sweet revenge for when the Colts beat the Jets in 2009 AFC Championship...30-17. Jets VS Patriots...28-21...JETS WIN...this was sweet revenge for when the Patriots beat the Jets in 2006 Wild Card...37-16. Just one more...the Steelers....Jets, just keep doing what you're doing and you'll be back in the Super Bowl...and it's been a long, long, long, long wait...41 years....when Broadway Joe took them to victory against the Baltimore Colts...16-7. Here I'm a big Cowboy fan and what am I doing cheering for a AFC team in the first place? Because my Cowboys aren't in the run for the fun, so, I've got to get behind someone, so I got on the Jet bandwagon just after the Jets were highlighted in HBO's Hard Knocks before this season began. GO JETS!!
  5. Happy belated Birthday to both of you...and many more!!
  6. Now that is COOL all the way around!!
  7. Obviously. So, what would be an example of your response? Sorry, but I thought I had already answered this in my first post.
  8. Everyday!!
  9. You know...I was cheering for the Ravens the entire game. Even though the Ravens went to their locker room dominating the Steelers at will, I didn't count the Steelers out. Two touchdowns in less than 30 seconds made be believe that the Ravens wanted the win more than the Steelers did. I still believed that way into the 4th quarter, but then Roth threw a 58 yard "please catch it please" toss that set up the winning TD, I groaned deeply. The Steelers found the end zone in the 4th quarter with plenty of time remaining, but because the Ravens had no timeouts left, they went for 4 straight big plays in the air, but when the Ravens’ last chance to beat the Steelers ended when T.J. dropped Flacco’s fourth-down pass at the Steelers’ 38 with 1:03 remaining, it was over for the Ravens. Key: Ravens couldn't protect the ball! Now the Steelers will wait for either the Jets or the Patriots...hopefully the Jets. Either way, don't count the Steelers out until the very end of the game. Now, the game between the Packers and the Falcons was an upset because, imho, the Falcons were heavily favored. But, Farve who? Rogers was SOLID and he let the Falcons know that he and the Packers are for real. With the Falcons tail feathers clipped by the Packers, my prediction of a Falcon VS Patriot Super Bowl is mute. Falcons weren't even an issue nor were they an after thought. 4 turnovers, 30% 3rd down conversions, and 194 total yards...yeah...not in today's NFL. Key: Failure to protect the ball! This game, Falcons VS Packers, was just as lop-sided as the Lakers VS Caviliers just the other night when the Lakers won 112-57...a romp of 55 points...hello and goodbye all at the same time! 57 points is what a high school junior varsity girls basketball team usually scores, not an NBA team, although it did. Now, it's time for the me to cheer on the Jets...GO JETS!!
  10. Visualization HELPS!! Please check out this link... http://imt.net/~randolfi/visual.html Again, if the practitioner of the martial arts can use visualization when learning some said new technique(s), then, if buying a black belt helps/motivates you, then who's anybody to tell you otherwise. It's as harmless as it can be, UNLESS, you wear the black belt outside and/or start telling people that you're a black belt when you're not; that's harmful to yourself and to your fellow martial artists.
  11. Yes, by all means, congrats and please keep us posted.
  12. For a Shindokanist, the varied possibilities are numerous to say the least. Albeit, whichever I decide to execute it would depend on the moment, nonetheless, it can be assured that a Shindokanist would be angling forwards, always forward, to execute a wide variety of deflects, traps, grasps, misdirections, re-directions, slips, checks, strikes, etc., to aide in my Tuite, shall it present itself during the moment, which to a Shindokanists, Tuite and the like are our primary tools of choice.
  13. One's just got to love the simplicity of this answer...and I do!! SOLID!!
  14. Rank with no affiliation is shared by each and every practitioner of the martial arts world wide. Why? If your rank isn't recognized by a martial arts association/organization, no matter how large or small that martial arts association/organization might or might not be, well, then your rank, per that said martial arts association/organization, is as valid and valuable as monopoly money is. To them, your rank would be..."zero", "cipher", "naught", "nought", "love", "duck", "nil", "zilch", "zip", "nada". Celebrate that! Your rank is valid per YOUR Sensei, and that's all that truly matters, imho. Here's how I feel about this. If I was in the ocean, and I was drowning: I mean I've already gone down once, I've already gone down twice, and I was about to go down for my third and last time, and an inner tube came floating by and saved me from drowning. I'd kiss an inner tube for the rest of my life. Then someone and/or something wants to take that away from me for one reason or another by saying that that inner tube didn't provide much of value and it's invalid because they said so. Everyone has their opinions about everything, and in that, I'm still content and complete in my totality as a martial artist not because they said so, but because my Dai-Soke/Sensei said so. Imho, your Sensei is the only person who matters in the context of your "rank". If anyone disputes such, well, let us allow the floor to decide that!!
  15. Yes, as far as I know, Tegumi has been discussed here at KF in one forum or another.
  16. Solid post!! There are just way to many Sensei's in this world to know each of them, no matter the venue. Even if a Sensei is known world wide, what does that guarantee? Nothing. The only thing that's guaranteed is that this Sensei is well known; nothing more and nothing less. Still and again, Lupin1's post is quite solid.
  17. As this thread is titled; what might be illegal in "matches", surely isn't illegal elsewhere.
  18. Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!!
  19. Imho, one of the most important things in board breaking is to be sure you've got great board holder(s), providing you're not using something else to hold/support said board(s). Holders that won't move/flinch are an important key, and to ensure this, properly train them as to their responsibilities across the board.
  20. In your opinion... What's the most important part of board breaking?
  21. There's nothing wrong with you buying a black belt!! Use whatever inspires YOU!! Wear the black belt at home if you want to because what you do in the privacy of your own home is your business.
  22. Yes, by all means, visit said dojo but visit that said dojo more than one time and watch different classes. Do some research on your own through the internet or library. After that, gather some questions that you both might have, and then ask them of that Chief Instructor.
  23. Not at a black belt factory type school of the martial arts.
  24. Solid post as well as solid questions!! My question...just what are you hitting? A wavemaster? A makiwara? A hanging bag and what type of hanging bag? Tameshiwara materials? A focus pad? A hand held shield? Also, with ms, are you more subjective to bruising? Please forgive my ignorance and any of my perceived tone of insensitivity with this question, that's not my intent.
