Welcome to KF!!!!!!!!

Ouch...Chiefs can't get a break: their season is not akin to last year. Sorry Brian!! My Cowboys have mastered losing the game in the 4th quarter. Romo made a wild/crazy Super Bowl prediction..."This team is going to win a Super Bowl at some point." Yeah...I'm sure that will be true whenever it does happen, but, imho, Romo won't be a Cowboy at that historic moment. It's all good....at least we get a season of the NFL...poor NBA might not even have a season!! GO COWBOYS!!

Fridays for the Hombu is its slowest because of the varied High/Mid-High sporting events. Then Saturday would be the Hombu's second slowest day during the varied summer sports programs, like little league, followed up with basketball, then soccer. Third slowest for the Hombu is family summer vacations. Forth slowest for the Hombu is right before Thanksgiving through New Year season. All in all, the Hombu still has its student base that will be at the Hombu no matter what!!

Imho, the true reason for the student decrease is the economic downturn. The MA, not just Karate, is a WANT and not a NEED. One needs to pay rent, buy groceries, pay utilities, and the like. One wants to learn the MA, but the money it takes each and every month to partake in MA classes can be used for something more important, as I've noted already.

Managing Behavior in Children's Martial Arts Training

Very nice article, and your article proves that YOU CAN TEACH KIDS...that takes a special gift. Not all black belts can teach, but even more so, not all black belts that do teach, can't teach kids. Solid!! -
Yep..me too! Couple of old ...uhhhh...dudes I guess. ROFL...what's one to do?!

Can you learn Martial Arts from internet?
sensei8 replied to xo-karate's topic in General Martial Arts Discussion
Learning from the internet, imho, is no different than from learning from a book; fragile at the best. -
Evaluating My Taekwondo School

That was a GREAT article Brian!! Being honest with oneself across the board is very important, however, not easy to do for one reason or another. This article will get my vote as Article of the Year, should it be on the ballot. -

It was only a matter of time....well deserved!! Congrats MP!! -
Yes...Boston and Tampa are still dangerous...can't take them lightly at all. As I've always said, any team in the playoffs is there for a reason, and they must be treated with a lot of respect...or...you'll get your due deserts...a LOSS/SWEEP. Royals have struggled for quite along time...they've only been to the WS twice, winning the WS in 1985. The Royals have been in last place in the division for the sixth time in seven years...ouchy. There not in last place now...there in 4th place in the AL Central out of 5 spots. Phillies have gotten my attention since Red October is right over the corner. Their pitching staff are AWESOME, and this will task any team that faces them during the playoffs. Their win/loss ratio is better than the Yankees and their percentage is .36 than the Yankees. The tag team of Halladay and Lee scare the ding-a-ling out of me, even though they don't have the lowest ERA during regular season. Come Red October...their ERA's will drop...watch!! GO YANKEES!!
-
I was being kind Brian...lol when I spoke about the Chiefs win/loss ration...sorry. That's not good for the Chiefs to have lost Charles for the season. Still, two games down, nothing to do about that...a lot of the season still left to play.
-
Are you ready for Red October...well I AM!! My Yankees are in first place, and today, their magic number to earn them another Division Championship is...5, with only 10 games remaining in the regular season. 5 games ahead of their arch rivals, the Red Sox. Super congrats to 'MO for his 602nd save, clinching him as the all-time Saves Record Holder. Is he the best Closer in all of MLB? Well...602 speaks for that. We've done well for ourselves this year, and it appears that Red October is setting itself up, and the fans, as one wonderful time across the board. Will the Yankees land up in another World Series? I'm hoping for just that! Will they win this years World Series? As a Yankee fan, I of course say yes. As a realistic Yankee fan, let's wait to decide that once we see who we'll be facing because any team that's made it to the WS is no slouch of a team and they must be reckoned with a lot of respect from the boys in pinstripes!! GO YANKEES!!

I feel for you Brian. After watching both Chief games in which the Chiefs were...well...soundly beaten, I'm quite perplexed. What happened to the Chiefs of 2010? Lockout didn't help much but that excuse, for every NFL team that's not doing so well, won't hold water much longer. Still, I'm expecting the Chiefs to better their win-loss ratio this year from last year. As far as my Cowboys are concerned...I'm OK. We lost to the Jets in game one, a game a was sure that we'd win, because Romo couldn't keep a handle on the pig at a crucial time in the game; Jets win! I was proud and shocked at the same time when Romo owned the accountability of their loss to the Jets. I even clapped out loud during his post-game interview. Then, came game #2 against the 49ers in which I saw one fantastic battle to the end. Then to see Romo return to the game, with a fractured rib, in the 3rd quarter spoke to me of Shugyo...suck-it-up, and that's what Romo did, and he earned a lot of respect from me. Which doesn't come easy for me because I've been very critical of him these past few years. When it mattered, Romo came through. But this was a total team effort, from the defense shutting down the 49ers in the second half and getting the ball back to the offense to role players and backups stepping up in place of injured starters. Will the Cowboys improve their win-loss ratio? I'm 50/50 on deciding this, but what I've seen so far...maybe! Game #3...Cowboys host the Redskins...I believe that this game is crucial for the Cowboys because a win for the 'Boys just might start the ball rolling in a important and needed win streak. As far as Cowboys' injuries...Romo might be placed on Injured Reserve...Terence Newman out with a groin injury...Orlando Scandrick out with an ankle injury...Bill Nagy is doubtful with a neck injury...Dez Bryant is questionable with a thigh injury...Miles Austin is probable with a knee injury...Martellus Bennett is probable with an ankle injury...Phil Costa is probable with a knee injury...Mike Jenkins is probable with a shoulder injury...Sean Lee is probable with a back injury...Anthony Spencer is probable with a shoulder injury...Tyron Smith is probable with a knee injury. GO COWBOYS!!

Martial arts for over 50 years old a.c.a. seniors
sensei8 replied to xo-karate's topic in Instructors and School Owners
I hear what you're saying Montana, me, being 54 this October. Funny thing about "being in a class with a bunch of oldies"...you've just described any said meeting at the Shindokan Hombu in which all participants are from the upper echelon, in which I'm part of. We have enough people that we could run our own Bingo and/or Bridge game. The rest of your post was SOLID; I couldn't agree with you more...and I like it!! -

Thanks for the info. I'm wondering though...it's not 4th of July or anything like that, so this must be true. Again, thanks for the info Patrick. -
Wait until you reach 50...scheeh. But serious, what you're planning is quite ok across the board. Keeping in motion is always much better than not!! Good luck and let us know how's it going.

Real use for traditional weapon forms?
sensei8 replied to skullsplitter's topic in Martial Arts Weapons
Traditional weapon Kata's and the like are important to developing and honing the needed skills to any said weapon, and that needed skill is CONTROL. One must control the weapon in and out while transitioning from one posture/stance to another. Now, while XMA weapon Kata's are, imho, for flash, the practitioner wielding said weapon must STILL control the weapon. Peel away the XMA flash, the weapon within any said Kata is still a weapon. Worthy of respect. Respect any said weapon before the weapon loses respect for the practitioner. Remember, the weapon and the body must become one, and to become one, control over said weapon is paramount. Next time, try to watch a weapon Kata for the beauty of the weapon, and it's possible that you'll see the weapon and the practitioner are in deed...one!! -
I second Brian and Alex. I was a JBB when I started to learn TKD. I truly enjoyed sitting in the last row as opposed to the front row. I relished the anonymity because only the GM and his senior BB's knew of my JBB in Shindokan. It gave me an opportunity to learn/absorb TKD without others looking at me with a judgemental scowl. It was a blast, as both Brian and Alex have already pointed it out. Enjoy and train hard!!

Imho, Complete anything is an illusion because the completeness would be dependent on the skills/knowledge of any said practitioner/karateka. IS THE METHODOLOGY/IDEOLOGY OF KARATE COMPLETE? Then again, that completeness might then be dependent on the skills/knowledge of the founder of that said style of karate. Possibly, the question above is what should be asked; one that might or might not ever be satisfactorily answered.

Would this be akin to... Study your opponent Study yourself Make a plan Carry the plan out ?? -
Each and every style of the MA has its pros and cons across the board. NO style is without its own flaws, and there are a few shared elements in karate, so such, that karate wishes these unfavorable elements weren't associated with any karate. Howbeit, this same thing could be said for any said style of the MA. Karate has its "flaws", this I don't deny. But to lump every style of karate in an unfavorable light, imho, is unfair. Shindokan is old school Okinawan karate; our Soke and Dai-Soke were born/raised in Okinawa, and in that, our Soke and Dai-Soke did cast away as many imperfections associated with karate so that the "old" can meet up with the "new/current" to remain a viable entity without discarding its traditional Okinawan roots. I believe in Shindokan, and if you had a moment to experience it, I'm sure you'd believe in it as well. Ask Brian his honest opinion since he's had an opportunity to experience it, albeit, if his exposure to Shindokan was only a very slight glimpse of it.

I'm at loss for words at the moment.

I'm not a 100% sure, but Brian, bushido_man96, researches Medieval Combat. Possibly he can answer a lot of anyone's questions.
