  1. Happy 4th of July; be safe.

We don’t buy fireworks but we’ll watch fireworks either in person or on tv: we’re going to watch the Macy 4th of July Fireworks show tonight on NBC.

    :)

  2. The OP’s proposed changes seem doable across the board. Not all black belts can teach, and furthermore, not a black belts can teach kids. Zaire’s idea is a proven solution when kids are concerned.

Teaching kids takes a special CI because kids will be kids in every shape, way, and form. Experts say that the age of the person, especially kids, is how many minutes their attention span will last.

No matter what, if class is boring, no positive change will occur or be quite difficult to achieve.

Listen to your Student Body. If they prefer smaller segments in white belt, then seriously consider their feedback.

Hang in there. Rome wasn’t built in one day; thank the Lord for that

    :-).

must not be a term you Americans use at all (or ever?).

like what makes the Shindokan the Shindokan. Just like what makes Goju Goju.

    What makes Shindokan tick is:

    1) Our close range fighting; we always want to get behind our enemy in order to inflict damage.

    2) One of the very few Karate styles that teach grappling but not in a passing by way.

    3) 85% hands…15% feet.

After that, Shindokan is an Okinawan style, and its methodology and ideology in many small ways are in line with other Okinawan styles.

What about a flashlight?  Especially at night, you could shine it in their eyes, blind them for a moment, then kick them in the groin and run off.

Or choke them out, whatever works.

There are a lot of wicked tactical flashlights that can do far more than light up a dark area.

Los Angeles Sheriff Department (LASD) use to wield long flashlights like one would swing a baton, inflicting a lot of damage.

  5. A’s broke ground last Monday at the old Tropicana Hoeel and Casino site here in Las Vegas, NV.

This $1.75 billion stadium…”will hold a capacity of 33,000 fans, featuring the closest seats to home plate and the smallest foul territory of any MLB ballpark. The building will be fully enclosed by a roof that will attenuate direct sunlight glare while welcoming indirect natural light through northern oriented clerestory windows. From home plate, the see-through dome will offer views of the Las Vegas Strip, with the New York-New York Hotel & Casino and MGM Grand in clear sight beyond the outfield.”

I suppose that the A’s deserve a big upgrade. I just hope that the A’s, with their 123 year old franchise will be worthy of their fans, Las Vegas, and standings.

Speaking of standings, at the time of this post, the A’s find themselves in last place in the AL West with a record of 34-51.

It’ll be, the A’s new stadium, something to see when it opens in 2027.

I'd love to sit down one day with you to hear stories about your Soke + Dai-Soke. Everything you have said about them makes me think that they were wonderful people.

Also I'd love to see what makes the Shindokan tick

Yes they were, wonderful people, that is, on and off the floor.

What makes the Shindokan tick?!? How do you mean?!?

@sensei8 I can imagine when the SKKA was operating of how busy you would have been! How many dojos were you responsible for in some way?

Just my dojo. The SKKA had no direct responsibility of any dojo within their network, just the administration of any and all Testing Cycles.

I was only responsible for the Hombu/SKKA but only when I was the elected Kaicho and Hombu CI. When I wasn’t the elected Kaicho, I was part of the Regents, a privilege I had for 25 years, of which our responsibilities were very wide ranging with our main focus was that of the Student Body and the like; the Regents reported to our Soke and Dai-Soke and the department heads reported to the Regents.

Between my own dojo, being part of the Regents, and being the elected Kaicho kept me extremely busy.

  8. For as many years as I can remember, I’ve wanted to write my memoirs which would include some Shindokan history/methodology/ideology, my history (boring), and as well as the SKKA civil war. I was even entertaining to write 3 separate books. One book about Shindokan history/methodology/ideology. Another book about my MA history, it would be a real short book. A third book about the SKKA civil war.

However, as many times that I’ve tried to tackle what seemed the impossible, I’d apply the brakes out of sheer ignorance and frustration of either my lack of writing skills in order to encompasses all that a great writer possesses.

For many years, unsolicited companies that provide ghost writers have continuously approached me in the hopes that I’d hire them. While that is intriguing enough to consider their offers, I don’t know if I can trust them, or afford them, with how they’d handle and respect my history.

Darn if I do and darn if I don’t!!

  9. My wife and I saw Karate Kid: Legands today. Less than 15 in the audience, which was no surprise seeing that it’s Thursday at 12:30pm.

We both enjoyed it, and we both got a kick out of the very end; quite unexpected but appreciated it.

Some things I saw were quite very predictable and I found myself shaking my head in wonder, yet, the pace was well done…movie was 1 hour and 30 minutes which was refreshing when most movies are 2+ hours.

Seems like the majority of the Karate Kid movies seem to be focused on a tournament, and the Cobra Kai series was no exception.

All in all…I’d see it again!!

I just watched this movie last night, with the thought that we might check out the sequel that was recently released. One scene shows Affleck's overbearing father forcing a man to run aggressive fight drills against him and his brother, who are just kids. With the captions on, one interesting thing popped up. When the man spoke, he was attributed as "silat instructor."

Wait until you watch The Accountant 2; great sequel.

It'll be interesting to see how the Aaron Rodgers scenario plays out in Pittsburg.  They aren't normally a team that makes short-sighted decisions like this, and I'm not sure that Rodgers pushes them over the top into championship territory.  I think Mike Tomlin typically has a pretty tight locker room, and in the past when egos have been an issue the Steelers have been more willing to let the player walk as opposed to cater to them.  It just seems to be a move outside of their normal culture standards.

I don’t see Rodger’s taking the Steelers any further than where they ended up last season…not being able to advance from the Wild Card. Why?? I just don’t see that from Rodger’s.

    @sensei8, do you use a C-PAP?

Not really!! It’s been an ongoing battle to get help!! It’s a sensitive topic to me.

I finally got my cpap machine over 2 years ago, after a 1 year delay of getting mine because of a nationwide shortage.

Then when I finally received mine, all of the plugs where NOT for USA but for Europe types. Took me anther 6-8 months to finally get the correct plugs. Had to also get 2 attachments that were not included in the kit…that took 4-5 months.

Then did 2 more sleep studies, one without my cpap machine and a 2nd sleep study with my cpap machine. However, the 2nd sleep study kept getting canceled by my medical insurance. After the 2nd sleep study they were going to fine tune my cpap machine based on the registered data. No 2nd sleep study…no fine tuning my cpap machine and teach me how to use the darn thing. I’ve mild sleep apnea.

So, I’ve complained to my Cardiologist many times, and he’s assured me he was going to make sure I’d get my cpap machine…never happened…he closed the one office that did the sleep study. He last told me he was going to schedule me anther sleep study but that’s not happened yet.

Going on 3 years and my cpap machine sits under my bed in its nice looking case. I’ll be seeing my Cardiologist again on July 9th…I’m really considering of returning my cpap because enough is enough.

If my sleep apnea was such a concern of both my Cardiologist and his Sleep Study office, he has many offices, then this roller coaster would have never started!! They seem to not care but I care!!

    :-x

  13. I watched a movie based on true facts today on Prime, “Samurai Marathon”.

What is this movie about?? I believe that Prime describes it far better than I can, so I’ll leave that to Prime…

”Acclaimed filmmaker Bernard Rose has created a stunning visual feast complemented by a haunting score from iconic composer Philip Glass. Operating undercover in the court of an aging Lord during a peaceful era of Japan that is on the brink of change. After the Lord challenges his lazy samurai to a punishing marathon to toughen them up, the ninja finds his loyalties put to the test.”

The Annual Samurai Marathon is held in the very same location, Annaka City. The race held by the Annaka clan in 1855 was the origin of the Japanese Marathon.

    :D
