Kai_Hwarang
Hook kicks can be effective against taller opponents...and of course the round house. Generally don't try to aim too high unless you know you have it...I personally like to wear them down first...Taller people tend to "reach" and bend foward to hit you if they're bunching or kicking...so it's easy to counter. -Kai "One must train the mind before the body...for the mind controls the body..." tufrthanu
Kai mentioned a hook kick in response to dealing with tall v short sparring. Although this may not be particularly germaine a short person can be very effective in a real fight by bringing the hook kick way down. What I mean is to hit the side or back of a persons lead leg knee with your lead leg. Long Live the Fighters!
Blue
What I mean is to hit the side or back of a persons lead leg knee with your lead leg. It would seem to me that - that would be the for a short vs tall person. Being about 6'1" i've sparred a number of smaller opponents - some guys maybe like 5'2" 5'3" - it's different. For me anyway and i suppose it's not universal but i've found smaller opponents to be real quick and harder to catch which puts you at a serious disadvantage if you are reaching like another poster said. Guy_Mendiola
i am the tallest person in my Tae Kwon do class and i mean in the white-orange belt class but the students are maybe of the ages 6-12 and i'm 13 and i'm the tallest so that makes me feel better because being that i'm a white belt and the rest are pass that, they are scared on sparring a taller and older person. The Saint
I've met lots of tall opponents that were fast. I can see your point on a small person being faster, however to generalize all tall competetors as being slow would be wrong. Toast
Wrong Sparring A Taller Person Is Just As Easy As Sparring Someone Who Is Your Height... (Just my view, but I'm a tall person) Follow this line: "Bigger they are harder they Fall" Use them, manipulate them. You are smaller, so natuarally faster.... Set them up, fake, fake, kick...with a tell person you have to "fight off the line".... move around not in and out... <Victory Martial Arts>15 yrs old; 6 yrs in TKD1st Degree Black BeltJr. Olympian | Team USA Qualifier"Train Like A Champion, Fight Like A Warrior"
