monkeygirl Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 It seems like many of the new movies coming out are not of the caliber they used to be. It's been a long time since I've seen a preview that actually made me think "Hey, that looks like a GOOD movie". Yes, I'm going to see "School of Rock" on Saturday with my friends, but that's just because I'm a diehard Jack Black fan and it's my friend's birthday...I have no delusions of this movie's grandeur. Are there any quality movies coming out? I'm not just talking about a so-so movie-of-the-week film. I mean a good, thought-provoking, stir-your-emotions film...such as the first Matrix, Minority Report, or Pearl Harbor. Am I the only one of this opinion? Discuss 1st dan & Asst. Tibby Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Luther is good. If you are a fan of Church history, or just a fan of Historical movies, you will like it. It is a movie worth seeing. I haven't seen the Rundown yet, but it looks pretty kickass.
kchenault Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I will recommend "Radio" with Cuba Godding, Jr. It is not out yet, but looks fantastic. Check out the previews. There will also be The Matrix: Revolutions and The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. Sure bets for hits. Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!
monkeygirl Posted October 2, 2003 Author Posted October 2, 2003 Yeah...I'll probably see Matrix: Revolutions simply out of principle...however, I was very disappointed with Matrix: Reloaded. I almost fell asleep in it, and I never fall asleep in movie theatres. Of course, a lot of people believe that Matrix2 was sort of a bridge-movie that had to do a lot of explanation, and that Matrix3 will be much, much better. I'm hoping it is. 1st dan & Asst. Warp Spider Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 I haven't seen the Rundown yet, but it looks pretty kickass. It was good, but it's not really a "thinking" movie like monkeygirl was looking for. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!
Pepparoo Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 Films you should see before you die: Clockwork Orange and If ('cos Malcom McDowell is da maan!), erm... Mallrats (best teen movie ever!), Joan of Arc, Braveheart (good war films), Rocky films, ID (funny film about football hooliganism), Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Once upon a time in china, Fist of Legend, Way of the Dragon...there's loads of films I like n that are worth seeing. As for newish films comming out/been out, christ no idea. The films that are out at the moment are nothing short of crap, but I wanna see The Pianist, that looks good.
wrestlingkaratechamp Posted October 2, 2003 Posted October 2, 2003 October 18th is my 18th birthday and alot of friends and I are going to see Texas chainsaw massacre. It looks mad good
battousai16 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 if you're looking for NEW thinking movies, i think you're out of luck, though it's nice to see another huge jack black fan. heh heh, i was him for halloween last year. i wonder who i'll be this year... if you want a thinking movie, it's best you look BACK. the aim of movies now isn't what's "deep", more what looks cool. i'm in a pretty big film noir funk right now, so i'll recomend memento. i'll second brave heart, and cast a vote for vanilla sky. uh, the godfather, and, uh... my older sister just recomended donnie darko. i can't promise you'll like 'em all, and now that i think of it all of those except the godfather are fairly recent, so that takes out my initial point. but... yeah. oh, and go check out young frankenstein, cuz that's just a flat out funny movie "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
sindian Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 "Lost in Translation" is supposed to be really good. Bill Murray is a genius. That man really does not get enough credit. The new Tarrantino flick "KIll Bill" looks good too.
battousai16 Posted October 3, 2003 Posted October 3, 2003 she says in another thread that she's already boycotting kill bill, and, in all fairness, it looks far from "good". at this point it just looks like it wont suck miserably:P "I hear you can kill 200 men and play a mean six string at the same time..."-Six String Samurai
