I've been wondering, how can I get those two vertical cut lines on the outside of my abs? I couldn't find a good example on the internet so I couldn't provide a picture...I can only hope you guys know what I'm talking about. Is there a completely different excercise to get them? I've done five sets of 100 crunches for a while a long with my training. My abs are pretty cut, but I'm just missing those two vertical lines around them! Can anyone help?

do you do the twisting crunches? that is what hits the latissimus dorsi, i believe that is what you want to work, also, doing standing twists with a bo staff or weight bar across your shoulders might help.

i have on exercise for the obliques that works really well for me. its on that wedge thing you see people doing lower back work (extensions usually) all the time. what you do is get half on your hip half on your butt so that you are facing forward but twisted 30-45 degrees so that you can lean your body back then bring it back up with those muscles you want to build.... did that make sense?

I do this...

 

Take a fairly heavy dumbell and stand straight up while holding it in one hand. Slide sideways so that the weight goes to your knee. Don't lean forwards or backwards and do 12 reps on each side. This targets the obliques and lower back.

Most people have OK abdominal muscles, but they are hidden behind a layer of flat. Most of the battle to show your abdominals is shifting that fat through overall fat loss, by a low fat, calorie controlled diet.

Yeah, those are abs. Obliques are a little different. You have to work them, or you will have sunken in Areas on either side of your cut abs.
