I'm trying to get my pullups up to 30, and get the ability to do a one handed pullup. Anybody have any good workouts for that kind of thing?

If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point.

the lat machine is good, or take gymnastics, or get a weight belt, and hand a 45 from u. you'll eventually get there, u just gotta work at it.

I would say the absolute best thing u could do (based on personal gymnastics experiance) would be to get a peg board.

they are great, because u pull yourself up with one arm to each hole. To start, u can push on the wall a little with your feet, but when u get good, u should be able to go up and down 3 times without using ur feet, then u can do 1 handed pull ups :)

I have just been doing three going down to lockout at the elbos every time I go through my doorway, and now Iv'e gotten strong enough to hold my self with one arm bent at a 90 degree angle, but not get myself going upward.

Remember to work out your forearms (not like that!!!) , but people constantly overlook their forearm muscles. These will provide you with a bit more stability on the pull ups, and vastly improve your grip.

So recognize or be hospitalized

Cuz literally on a scale from one to ten I'm 25.

I can only (just!) do 3 pull ups ... I've always found it really hard to build upper body strength (strange - no problem building leg strength or endurance).

I'm not convinced 3 is enough to get a training effect? What's the best way to get going on pull-ups? I have some free weights - and a large beam (my punch bag is hung on it), but no access to a gym.

Currently: Kickboxing and variants.

Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.

Try these differernt grips and arm positions to work different muscles:

-the closer your arms are the more your biceps work

-the farther apart your arms are the more your upper back works

-hands facing you lets biceps work and forearms rest a little

-hands facing away gets your forearms a little

You're using upper back, and biceps mainly so exercises that help build them will help too. Work on your weaknesses.

Also try ladders and pyramids instead of straight sets if you want variation.

Ladder: 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 (do 1 rest for 1, do 2 rest for 2, etc.)

Pyramid: 1, 2, 3, 2, 1

Wow, I can already do a half of a one handed pullup.
