Angus Posted October 12, 2001 Posted October 12, 2001 Okay - running burns fat right? More than doing weights? Cos i want to stop putting on muscle for a while and concentrate on the aesthetics (that is toning). I want to lose a little more of the beer gut ( not that there's much there anymore) and kinda get 'ripped' so to speak. Is it good to do toning with the weights every day? kicker Posted October 12, 2001 Posted October 12, 2001 yes its does burn fat but don`t know if faster then weights!! i know that it makes you faster and in good shape!! i don`t really know what that means!!! when you do your best it`s going to show. Angus Posted October 12, 2001 Author Posted October 12, 2001 Ah well, any help is good help. I'm doing a short run every morning which i try to sprint, or do as fast as i can. It's only 3.2 km but i reckon the speed makes up for the distance. Cos i'm damn near death by the time i get back. Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.
moobrack Posted October 13, 2001 Posted October 13, 2001 I am taking it that when you say toning you mean ripping up.To rip[ up you just have a regular man's diet, ie Fish bits of chocolate fries chicken veggies the usual, and then you start to weight train. If you don't wanna rip up but wanna add muscle you should put on weight and then train. Hope this helps 2f) Anthony Bullock1st Dan Black Belt - Shotokan Karate5th Kyu Yellow Belt - Aiki-Jutsuhttps://www.universaldojo.com Coming Soon
Zaknafein Posted October 13, 2001 Posted October 13, 2001 hmm..To burn the most fat on your runs, try running slowly. This is because if you run at a fast pace, then your body switches to an anaerobic mode of producing energy. What this means is that your body doesnt need oxygen to produce the energy for muscles. Without oxygen, fat doesnt get burned. That is what produces the burning and stuff..its lactic acid, which is a by-product of anaerobic energy production. Im not saying that you dont burn any fat while sprinting, because you are breathing very hard. You actually burn more calories per minute at a faster pace, but when running a definite distance, the calories burned is actually less than at a slow pace..plus, you can run for a longer time. Sprinting is good though. It raises metabolism, which helps to get rid of fat even when your not excersizing. About twice every week, I run a certain distance by sprinting for about 15 secs, then slow to a jog, then to a walk (for about 20 secs), then I just keep repeating this until im back at home (or I fall dead). This excercise is more for soccer than anything else, though. Also, I would like to stress the fact that jogging is very hard on your lower body. Have a pair of good running shoes and try not to run on pavement as much as you can. Soft trials in a park are best..and dont run more than 45 mins (I had a nasty run-in with shinsplint last sprig because I didnt follow these tips, ehhehehehe ). Oh yeah, and jogging does burn more fat than weight lifting..but doing both is very good. What you have to remember is that aerobics dont only use fats and stuff for energy..they use muscles too. Your body breaks down your muscles for energy, so you have to keep eating lots of protien and doing weight lifting. Angus Posted October 13, 2001 Author Posted October 13, 2001 Moobrack and Zaknafein, thanx for the great posts. That is exactly what i wanted to know. Moo, i actually did wanna rip up, cos i think i've put on enough muscle for the time being and i just wanted to go for that Bruve Lee "i'm all ripped up like a garbage bag" look. Thanx for the info dude. Zak, that was a good post man - i run 3.2km cos that is the distance from my house to my mailbox and back. I live on a farm ya see, so all my running is done on that dirt track. I eat like a pig and i love meat so i don't think my muscles will suffer from the running. Thanx. One more question - is it wise to tone every day or just every second day? Angus Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not absence of fear.

KickChick Posted October 15, 2001 Posted October 15, 2001 Think LOW FAT Angus (diet is important!) ...and keep up with the running or any type of aerobic/cardio activity. Did you know that beer causes more fat to settle on your belly. Think ...CRUNCHES! You need to do exercises that work all the muscles in your abs (the rectus abdominis and obliques) from different angles. There are three so-called "planes of motion." When you bend forward, you work the sagittal plane. Bend to the side and you target the frontal plane. Twist your torso and you hit the transverse plane. A basic crunch only works your muscles through one plane of motion...sagittal, which is why you can do them forever and only see a third of the results. Of course, don't give up on crunches. Incorporate moves that hit the other two angles and your abs will be much leaner. Good Luck Hon! _________________ 1st Deg.
