Huge clunks and cracks

Ben

Recommended Posts

i've recently gone from not doing much all day to a strict shedule of training and i've noticed that *everything* cracks. my wrists, elbows, shoulders (theres a huge *CLUNK* everytime i do a push up on my right shoulder) knee's and ankles. there's also a huge clunk when i do certain motions with my hips (again the one on the right).

Should i be overly concerned, or do some of you have the same thing? or is it just smoothing the joints out or something? i'm actually quite worried :\

Thanks for any replys

If it does it every time you go through that motion, I would see a doctor. An occasional popping can be similar to cracking your knuckles.

My hips will do it usually once a day if i'm kicking, so when i'm warming up and stretching before class I usually go ahead and get it to pop.

If it is persistent or accompanied by pain I would recommend getting it checked. Better safe than sorry.

If there is no pain then I wouldn't worry about it. However, don't sit there trying to get them to pop and crack. Some noises come from liquid rushing in to fill a vacuum that may have formed in your joint; some noises come from irritated ligaments, which have swollen up a bit, that are forced in a given direction.

hmm... well it does clunk every other time i kick, and *always* on a high front kick, so i'm going to get around to making an appointment i think. its not accompanied by pain, its just a general put-off when kicking.

thanks :)

I pop and crack all the time too-quite humorous when it occurs during a form and everyone is watching (&listening). One student asked if the cracking noises were part of the form!

thats why i occasionally start to laugh when practising forms by myself. sudenly laugh at a really slow clunk, just as my parents walk out into the back garden.

they probably think i'm crazy :D
