most painful injury

Recommended Posts

I've had a couple good ones...in no particular order...

-when I was a kid we were at my grandmother's and we all got called in to dinner, I was running downhill with a toy hoe (yes, the gardening tool :) ) and I fell on it...it went right inside my upper lip...

-I used to pole vault in high school. I broke 4 through all of hs, but the last one was the worst, I was upside down, full bend on a 13' pole and it snapped 5 feet from the top, the bottom hit me in the shoulder blade at about mach 5 and the top flew 30 feet away. I didnt move my arm for 3 days after that....another 4 inches higher and that woulda been my neck...and MUCH worse...

On the same shoulder, I threw a military press over the back of the rack and wrenched the hell out of it...that was NO fun!

The worst was blowing up my L5 disk and having chunks of it inflamed and pressing on all of the nerves in my back and going down my legs. Many things contributed to it...one of the worst was before I knew it was really bad, I punted a football...OW...I think what made the chunks was getting punched by an angry psycho ex girlfriend right in the small of my back and dropping to the floor, not feeling my legs...

Now I stretch every day and work out and I'm in better shape than ever :) Too bad it took me getting all busted up to get me off my * and get it done!

Wazup guys n gals!

Back in '89-'90 I raced my younger sister from the shop after buying brad and managed to loose control of my bicycle and smashed into a tree. I was k-o for a short while ..... No permanent effects though ... Not that I would really know now would I?

But my most embarresing injury was back in 2002 September. The Saturday we had national kickboxing championships and I won (my category) and took the gold, making me the South-African champion. Now that was FAB. Came Tuesday we were training and I (as always) led the class and did some stretching and warming up when one of our guys were attacked outside by 3 men and a woman. As we ran down the stairs, my foot (right) slipped and I twisted my ankle and sprained it very badly. Th next morning it was blue, purple and black and not to mention the green bits and the dry blood under my skin as far as up to my toes. The doc said that I ripped all the legaments (spelling?) in my ankle/foot. It was so bad that I will only be returning to my dojo this coming January.

Most painful injury was popping my ear drum. There is no rehad or streaches for that. You can't walk, and the pain makes you sick to your stomache, even if your on medication. I was on t3's and for the first 2 weeks if there was any bright lights or average level noise, it was hell.

My worst was in high-school, I was practicing softball for a student vs teacher game. I' was at bat, swung [hit the ball, pop to center], and suddently felt like my knee had exploded towards 3rd base. Dropped to the ground to discover that my right knee-cap had dislocated and rotated 90 degrees to the outside of my leg. OUCH!

Got to the hospital, they took some x-rays, straightened out my leg [much pain] and counted 1....2....3 and slammed it back into place. That hurt worse than the original injury!

And I was told that if it ever happens again, I should straighten my leg out and shove it back in place before bothering to come to the hospital, because it will hurt less before it starts swelling. Ugh, I don't know if I can do that so I'm just very careful with that knee. :)

Snapped some muscle fibers in near the top of my trapezious at back/base of skull.

The pain hit like I was smacked with a baseball bat and brought me to the floor of the dojo immediately. It was so intense, I honestly thought I was about to die.

Three months of physio and making some changes to my sleep position have fixed it but I am still very frightened that it might happen again.

This happened to me a couple of months ago:

I was sparring against my instructor, and tried for a front kick... he blocked with his elbow. I was limping for two weeks.

Oh, the pain. The pain.
