Mantra Locust Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 I'm interested in starting a career in Boxing. I was curious as to what excercises I need to do to condition myself for Boxing. Thanks in advance!
Tibby Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Go to a trainer. If you want to be a pro boxer, you will need a trainer. He will cover all this. You need to be Aerobically conditioned. Jump rope, jog, Spar. You need to get some bag work in, pound that bag a lot. You need to get stronger, get in the weight room, start lifting. Don’t worry about conditioning your knuckles as much as you need to take care of your hands. Those are your money makers. Don’t go don’t any bag work or sparring without your wrist ATLEAST being wrapped. Again, get a trainer. He will know what to do! If you ahve one ,adn he isn't showing you all this, Get a new one!
Mantra Locust Posted July 29, 2003 Author Posted July 29, 2003 I'm going to get a trainer as soon as I can afford one, which should be within the next month or two. But in the mean time, I want to use this time to condition myself as much as I can so I'll have a head start when I start training. I want to be a pro boxer, but I feel I may be starting too late to get into the big leagues, so to speak. I'm 20 years old, but it's been a child hood dream to be a great fighter. So I'll do WHATEVER it takes to get where I need to be. If I have to run 5 miles, do 300 crunches, and lift weights daily, I'll do it. Whatever I have to do to be great. This weekend I'm buying a punching bag, some gloves, and a decent jump rope. I have some hand wraps, so I should be okay. Any advice more advice you could give me that could put me on the road to success would be very appreciated. Thanks again!
Breakdancer Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 if you wanna be a great fighter do thai boxing, mike tyson wouldn't stand a chance against a moderate muay thai fighter, and thai boxing uses western style boxing punches so it would be like boxing but with the very powerful kicks
Tibby Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 if you wanna be a great fighter do thai boxing, mike tyson wouldn't stand a chance against a moderate muay thai fighter, and thai boxing uses western style boxing punches so it would be like boxing but with the very powerful kicks I think by great fighter, he means great Prize Fighter, great boxer. Just to be sure, do you know how to warp? Sence your new, if you don't know how, look it up online, there are sevreal ways, and your trainer may show you a new one, but in the mena time, get a good one online. Good luck chasing your dream, and let us know how it goes, bro. WHat is your weight program like? I'm into that sort of thing, I'm just wondering.
Warp Spider Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 mike tyson wouldn't stand a chance against a moderate muay thai fighter I disagree with that. Mike Tyson is big. Most Thai fighters would be laid out with cartoon stars floating around their head after a single blow. Thai kicks are powerful, but I'm sure he can take it. As for training and whatnot, until you get a trainer I'd say mostly just hit the heavy bag lots and do some cardio exercises. Paladin - A holy beat down in the name of God!
Tibby Posted July 29, 2003 Posted July 29, 2003 Yeah, with that speed bag of a head Iron Mike has, it would be a close match. In his prime, that is. Now, he would last a while, but he would get stomps. But in his prime, I think he could hold his own against a Thia guy.
Mantra Locust Posted July 29, 2003 Author Posted July 29, 2003 Kirves : If I could afford a trainer right now, I would, but until I do, I want to condition myself and get as fit as possible, so when I do get a trainer, I can waste less time on fitness, and more on skill. Tibby : You're exactly right, I want to be a great Prize Fighter, or Boxer. I don't know anything about warping, I tried to search around for it, but didn't come up with anything. Could you elaborate on what warping is exactly? As far as my weight program is, I'm kinda experimenting at the moment, I don't have a sound program just yet, I just do some basic excercises, such as bench press, incline press, squats, curls, hammer curls, and reverse curls. I lift with low weight, high reps, and with explosive force. I hear doing otherwise could make your muscles stiff and slow. ------------ I want to have a full workout routine dedicated to boxing. I've browsed through Evander Holyfield's training schedule, would any of this be benifitial to me in regards to following it to a T? http://www.sportsci.org/news/news9709/hatfield.html
