tommarker Posted August 1, 2003 Posted August 1, 2003 if it is one of those one-legged sparring folks who just throws kick after kick after kick, they expect you to be somewhat intimidated by their ability to do so. steamroll them. close the distance, and if you accidently knock them on their butt... take the penalty and see if it throws them off their game. best thing to do is get a friend who can spar that way and experiment a few times. TKDShoujo Posted August 1, 2003 Author Posted August 1, 2003 Thats exactly what my idea was in my previous post. If I get in real close she'll have more difficulty hitting me with her stupid kick. Also, I found out I wont be sparring her because shes only a blue belt (lower than me). But I WILL be sparring a girl that spars just like her. I dont know why she suddenly changed her style of sparring, but she did. But either way, at least I know a few tricks that might help me get through it. Thanks everyone. The tournements tomorrow, wish me luck!! Female- 16 years old - Brown Belt 3rd grade.
tommarker Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Good luck, and let us know how that works out! This strategy is very popular in the mid-high level gup ranks. I think it's because at about that level, you find you can do it pretty well. I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
TJS Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 If they Stand on one leg Eat the kick comming in a give them a solid right knocking them off their one legged balance and sending them back to the mat a few feet... err..I mean...
TKDShoujo Posted August 2, 2003 Author Posted August 2, 2003 I won 2 silver medals at the tourney. one for forms and one for sparring. CLOSE match in sparring, i mean really close. But i still think i shoulda won that damn gold for forms!!!!! they score u outta 10 (but no one ever gets a 10 and 9's are just as rare). My score for my form was this (there were 4 judges): 8.2 8.2 8.4 8.6 In no specific order. So the girl that won must have gotten a point or two higher than me. w00t! but those scores are still high! LOL I totally screwed up the last move on my step sparring. I did #4 for some reason instead of #6. I cant beleive i did that lol! Dont ask how i pulled that one off. My partner and I didnt win a medal for that event though. Oh well. Better luck next time. Anyway, we went to eat at a chinese place afterwards. They've got good food there ^_^ Oh yeah, and in the end they determine which school won the most gold medals and whoever wins gets the Team Championship Trophy. Our school won with 82 gold medals. I think we had about 32 ppl on team. 2 years running! w00t w00t! Female- 16 years old - Brown Belt 3rd grade.
tommarker Posted August 2, 2003 Posted August 2, 2003 Good job! Did any of the people you sparred use the strategy we'd been talking about? I'm no longer posting here. Adios.
TKDShoujo Posted August 3, 2003 Author Posted August 3, 2003 I thought she would but she didnt! She used regular kicks once in a while, but most of the time we were really close and she was just punching at me. However i did manage to block every head shot she threw at me. Got her good with my side kick too. still, close but no cigar. =\ Female- 16 years old - Brown Belt 3rd grade.
KwicKixJ1 Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 i think your positive attitude is admirable. props. its rare to see people with that kinda optimism when it comes to competing. i hope you continue to behave the way you do and that others learn from your enthusiasm to learn.
TKDShoujo Posted August 17, 2003 Author Posted August 17, 2003 thanks! Female- 16 years old - Brown Belt 3rd grade.
