wearing wrist weights while training

i use 5 lbs wrist weights and do punching exercises for 10 minutes 3 times a day, my hands are like lightning, but i use 20 lbs on my legs

The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.

do you think that wearing wrsist weights while training is a good idea? it'll give you faster hands, right?

Light weights will strenghten your arms and quicken your hand speed. I use light weights while punching in slow motion and while

working my katas in slow motion. It really makes a difference.

Be careful with the amount of weight and do not punch full force and speed you could injure yourself. :karate:

Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.

i don't like to weight train but it might help

Be as a tranquil pool of water in the woods. Calm, collected, reflecting on its surface all that is around it. Make your own mind such a quiet mirror reflecting the mind of the opponent. Even as your partner's impulse to attack passes through his mind it should be reflected in you.

The safest battle is the one that is never fought

I used to wear 5 lbs. on each wrist and punch. I got a little faster and a little stronger, but they chafed a whole lot (yeah, sounds weak...but...) and they would often rip. I just punch a lot more now and it works fine for me.

yes, i recommend it , try sparring with weights against an individual with no weights on, this trains you to get faster with the weights on, so when you take the weight off you are really fast

That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger

Yeah, the whole "bad for the joints" thing was the main reason I stopped (waaay back then, i did a full twist corkscrew punch, before i knew the benefits of the 3/4 turn punch). Now, it isn't as big of a deal because of the way I punch, but if i do use weights, i just use the one and a half pound glove thingies...but they have a tendency to leak...

I haven't used them in forever though.

Make sure you stretch and don't put to much weights on. Do not try to go as fast as you can. Try to use 5 lbs on wrists and punch slower than normal. That will build up your muscles. If you are using leg weights do not try to snap it as hard as you can in the air. I'd hate for someones leg to fly off their body and hit me in the back of the head during class :)
