ZR440
Last month a very pretty young woman pulled open a door at the same time I was pushing to enter the store and she declined to go first even after I said "after you". That caught me off gaurd so much that I was wondering if the age before beauty thing applies to me now that I'm a third of a century old. It's happy hour somewhere in the world. ZR440
Either that or she just had some basic manners. Maybe she thought I was smokin hot and was flirting. Nah, she was probably confused. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.

telsun
It's hard to be chivalrous if people don't appreciate it...but I still do it because I love the feeling of helping someone, even just a little bit. You should not expect to receive gratitude but you should be extremely grateful when you do. By expecting gratitude you are giving to receive. You should give selflessly. I have something in a book about this I will post some of it if I can find it. But yes I do agree it is easier to be kind when it is appreciated. I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
GrrrArg
I think there's a difference between expecting gratitude and giving to recieve, you may expect gratitude but not be wholly surprised when you don't recieve any or you may expect gratitude and be offended when you don't recieve it. The later being an example of giving to recieve. There's nothing wrong with expecting courtesy in kind it may just be a bit niave to think that everyone has manners simply because you do. fireka
it means just what it said, your attempting to ignore it, thats why you said 'whatever that means'. as if you dont know.
