newbalance Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Yea, hyperextended my ankle kicking the bags in class. Inexperience is a brutal teacher. Can walk and run, but can't roundhouse or kick anything with it. Anyways, my question is this: I bought an ankle brace...how often do I wear it? At work and play? 24/7? Just to class? I forgot to ask the teacher, and before I do would like to hear from you.
SaiFightsMS Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 I would wear the brace during time the ankle was bothering me or times it would be under more than the normal amount of stress like at clss.
ZR440 Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 Your teacher is not a doctor. They are not trained to diagnose nor advise. From my past experience with orthopaedic doctors, they would normally advise to wear the brace until you are strong enough to not need it anymore. However, if the damage cannot be corrected and renders the joint weak, then the brace can be used whenever you are training. You might want to ask a physical therapist or physician if it persists for a while. They might just recommend rest. I am coming off a grade 2-3 ankle inversion that had sidelined me for months. If you tore something, it'll take time to heal. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
