killer13 Posted July 13, 2003 Posted July 13, 2003 in aikido do you learn how to offend your self as well as defend your self ? Because i see it as a bunch of blocks. katie killer M.
GrrrArg Posted July 13, 2003 Posted July 13, 2003 Offend yourself...? Aikido works from block to counter as far as I know-someone who does it will be able to say more, try the aikido forum.
Sho-ju Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Aikido works best if you have someone running at you full tilt with there arms out in front.
Treebranch Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Think of it like running into a treebranch or being close lined. Aikido people don't beat you up, you do it yourself. Kirves Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Yes I can offend myself, thank you very much. All it takes is one look in the mirror! Aikido doesn't teach attack tactics and that is a weakness. But if you learn how to lure the opponent into touching you... It's another story!
kle1n Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 yeah but it is still very hard to fight an idiot who just throws punches if you are only doing aikido. thats why i startet wing chun a short time ago also Be everything. Be nothing.
Treebranch Posted July 14, 2003 Posted July 14, 2003 Aikido isn't an aggressive style of fighting. They don't want to hurt you, but they won't let you hurt them. It takes alot of practice and balls of steel. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
Kensai Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 You see it as a bunch of "blocks". How profound, right that little jem down.
Treebranch Posted July 17, 2003 Posted July 17, 2003 Killer 13 why don't you go try Aikido then get back to us. I think you'll have a rude awakening. "It is easier to find men who will volunteer to die, than to find those who are willing to endure pain with patience.""Lock em out or Knock em out"
killer13 Posted July 18, 2003 Author Posted July 18, 2003 well thank you very much for you answers and i took some of your advice and took an aikido class today when i went to an all martial arts center and it is a lot more than a bunch of blocks. katie killer M.
