Weight Training???

Recommended Posts

those must be old statistics, that doesnt really seem to be the case now, but what is the case is that 25% of all premier league players are foreign, so its most likely that the black players you seem to see so often are from other countries, but its weird why the england team have a swedish manager??? :???:

Weight training is a great idea but watch lifting heavy weights because the added muscle can move you into a diff weight class if you lift to many heavy weights. You might be better off doing max reps wirth lower weights to encourage muscle endurance rather than big bulk.

Hey Ramcalgary

No weight classes where I train for bud

I train with weights - BIG weights, well big-ish anyway (Heaviest lift at the moment is 325kg leg press) - and currently weigh in at 182lbs - not exactly gargantuan

LOL!

Big muscles are FAST muscles - look at an elite sprinter - do you think he got that body from lifting little weights?

Like I said - I'm 182lbs. That's not huge is it? Muscle mass is not a bad thing unless you take it to extremes - lifting big weights for low reps will not turn you into a monster like you see on the front of the Muscle Mags - it takes drugs to do that.

If you lift heavy weight or do negative lifts your body will adapt to the heavy weight by getting stronger. Sometimes the muscle will adapt by getting larger. It does not take drugs to get big and massive. Lifting weights does not always make you bulky but watch out and make sure you continue to stretch and train your twitch muscle fibers too

There are 4 key elements to getting "massive" and by that I mean so big that it effects your martial arts performance for the worst - in order of their importance (least first) they are...

- Training

- Diet

- Drugs

- Genetics

So - if you DO wanna get feakey huge, choose your parents wisely

  • 2 weeks later...

"Proper" weight training designed for MA can have a wonderful effect.

But where possible one ought to include Plyometric exercises, with or without weights
