I was wondering what video card i should buy for my new computer. Maybe some of you might have suggestions on which ones are good and which are the best deal ect... Just dont say any card that is more than about $300 (Canadian) because thats my limit. And which company is better, NVIDIA or Radeon?

Im just wondering, does anyone know anything about the geforce 4 ti 4800? I saw one for sale on a computer web site, and i searched tomshardware.com to see if i could find how good it was, but they didnt have it and the ti series on their list only went up to 4600. Is it a real card or is the web site trying to scam people? Also (if its real) how good is the ti 4800, and how good is the ti 4600?

My current card is a Radeon and it works great. No complaints so far. I upgraded from a Gforce 3 and saw quit a bit of improvement. The Gforce 3 was great in its day but things improve so fast now it made sense to upgrade.

Ti 4800 is real but apparently it performs below the 4600.

I don't know how much $300 canadian dollars is but im gona guess at about £150. That will buy you a GeForce FX 5200 and leave you with some change, so maybe you get get a better model.

I've heard good things about the Radeon 9500 which may also be in your price range, you don't say what you've got at the moment though so I can't give you any real performance comparrisons :)

Well, what im getting is a p4 2.6 ghz processor, and its gonna have a 120 gb harddrive and 512 mb of ddr ram. So far i have enough money to cover everything (except the video card). I was thinking of getting a geforce 4 ti 4600, because on all the tests i have seen it runs faster than every other card series below the radeon 9700 level.

Ti 4600 will be more than enough, its a very good card and not too noisey like the FX series

I remember being told several years ago, that the 10Mb video card I'd just bought would be the only one I'd ever need... ;)

I didn't believe that for a second, but at the time it was the best on the market.

This means that the card can use the 8x AGP slot, which is basically the slot it fits into inside your computer, basically the faster the slot the faster the card can talk to the processor-this means that in thoery the same card in a 8x slot will perform better than one in a 4x for example.
