StoneSkin
Just out of curiosity which of you like weight training over calisthetics(bodyweight exercises) and vice/versa.
telsun
I used to use weights alot but am now tending to go more for calisthenics. More for conveniance than any other reason. Although the karate and JJ classes I goto have showed me how hard bodweight exercises really can be I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!" BladeLee
Weight training all the way..... if done properly. For martial arts I would recommend things like dynamic effort lifts and olympic lifts added into everyones routine. ~BladeLee~
Tibby
Weights are WAY better. I've been an sevreal sports, and Weights have helped me in all of them. Why should martial arts be any different? It is simple, Strength is usefull in fighting, and weights gets you more strength and sooner. Weights are better. If you ahve to, use body weight exercises, but when possable, weights! StoneSkin
I just wanted to know how some of you trained thats all. I actually use weights quite a bit but i do lots of calistetics as well. I found that weight training is a must. BTW Charles atlas had this program called dynamic tension in which no weights were involved almost based entirely on this dipping exercise. Well Weider claimed Atlas's muscles were barbell built, and that Atlas's routine was giving people false impressions as to how there physique would look. SO they went to court and this is how the story went. Judge "so Mr. Atlas do you ever lift weights ?". "Why yes. But only to test my strength" replied Atlas. Judge "How often do you test your strength ?" , "I test my strength for about an hour a day 3 times a week." replied Atlas
Tibby
Yeah, dynamic tension is just a fancy way to say "isometrics" There was a lot of that back in the day. Case in point, this is my favorite picture: http://pic7.picturetrail.com/VOL208/994433/1850393/22657537.jpg Before he was the Terminator, was the "Wildcat"! lol. Now a days, people find more money selling rip off Supplaments, thou.
