BKJ1216
I went out this morning and just hit my punching bag for about 15 minutes. I was really hitting it as hard as I can the whole duration, but I did it off an on for little unmeasured bits of time. Anyway when I came back in, I had these red spots in the webbings of my fingers. My Dad says they are crushed capularys from hitting the bag, basically bruises. Do these cause any sort of health issue? Like, not arthritis or anything, but some direct effect upon the circultory system. I've been hitting it without gloves on, just so I can like condition my hands or something. White Belt- Shudokan Karate
granmasterchen
i have been doing it for years, if you are only bursting the capilaries and the occasional blood vessel you shouldn't have a thing to worry about. I haven't had any circulatory problems and i have been hitting things hard, bursting blood vessels , internal bleeding(bruising) the hands , breaking knuckles and such for close to 20 years...so i wouldn't worry if i were you That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
SaiFightsMS
It is generally recommended that when you start striking a heavy bag or a makiwara to start slow and build up. Same as for the power of the strikes. Warm up with softer punches and gradually increase the intensity to full power.
G95champ
12 bucks for a pair of bag gloves is not a bad idea either. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
Tibby
You have to understand that capularys are EXTREMELY small. We are talking so small, only one red blood cell at a time can pass thru them. We aren't talking about massive veins or anything here. People have been hitting heavy bags for ages. You will be fine. As you hit the bag bare knuckle (starting off small) you will dovelop calusseson your hands, these should do a little to protect against damage. StoneSkin
Your hands will probably get really red, cut, scratched, bruised, blistered and nice and bloody. This will probably happen if you get in a bareknuckle fight with someone anyways. Just something to get use to.
