Hey there,

Just curious as to what everyone's worst injury related to martial arts has been. In my case, I practiced karate for 1 1/2 years and never had a major injury. Worst I ever had was pulling a muscle from kicking too high, and once I got socked in the eye pretty hard, but no permanent damage. How about you guys?

i was teaching a friend some TKD, stand up fighting, and he was teaching me grappling. Well I was doing a round house back round house, where after the first kick you drop down on the top of the foot and then jump and deliver the other roundhouse....well when i dropped down on the ball of my foot, i was off a little on the angle and popped the joint of my big toe out the side of my foot......it was pretty painfull, but i continued to spar and when i went to the hospital they said it was fine, a year later at a specialist he told me what had really happened and how it healed rather badly and now causes problems due to the fact that the joint is pushed out further on the side of the foot now.,.....

I got kicked in the right eyeball with somebody's heel. I had terrible double vision for a few weeks (had to wear an eyepatch...yeah they called me Cap'n Tammy). My orbital bone (what your eyeball rests on) was fractured, and the fracture was trapping some eye muscle in the bone. As a result, my right eye couldn't look as far up as my left eye, and double vision occured. My double vision has since healed up for the most part although I still have it to some extent. When I'm tired it gets worse, I get migraines now (where it feels like there's a marble behind my eye), and I have to be careful when I get sick or have a sinus infection because it puts a lot of pressure on my eye.

One good thing that came out of all of this: whilst getting my eye checked, the opthamologist determined that I'm at risk for diabetes. I'll probably have it later in life, but now I'll be prepared for it, instead of lapsing into a coma or something.

I have a nice scar from a spear stab to my lower abdomen. I have another scar from a knife slice on my forearm. I had four tendons in my right hand severed by a katana, which required surgery and therapy and I don't have 100% range of motion. Amazingly enough, I have only had my nose broken twice. I have a nice scar from an iron bar taken to my chin--luckily the hit wasn't too hard and didn't break the bone. I have a scar from a machete slice to my shin from when I lived in the Philippines, which required some jungle stitching. I've had one tooth broken.

Aside from a slew of wonderful bruises, sprangs, scraps, and little cuts--I have some nice scars on my knuckles--I haven't been hurt that bad.

I've never been really hurt my whole life, including 7 years of training.

THe worst thing that has happened to me was just recently the nail on my big toe got caught on someone else's foot and was pried up from the toe in a rather disgusting manner.

I've never had anything broken or sprained.
