Traditional Karate vs Taekwondo

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the traditonal karate or Taekwondo will give me more of a workout while training. I am also trying to lose weight while taking MA, but have not decided which one yet. Please let me know, especially if someone is taking that style

Depends on the Master teaching it. You are going to have to visit both classes for a night, and see who it working harder, who is sweating more, and whose students look like they are more in shape. Students are a great way to measure the schools progress.

id say tae kwon do is more obsessed with work outs but i dont think its a great art, for self defense or even tournament your better off with karate and youll probably still loose the weight if you train at home to. but then again, im a karate ka and im in shape, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Are you currently active? If you are not very active at the moment you will find that any kind of training will help you.

It also depends on the dojo/ dojang that you join. I have practiced T-karate for many years and the clubs have all varied. The one I train at now has a strong empthasis on fitness.

If you already have a couple of styles in mind I think that the best way to discover which one is for you is to try them. You will know which one you wish to practice.

Good luck!
