Tombstone Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 I've heard that it takes 1/4 of the time you've smoked to heal. Example: smoked for 4 years, your lungs would be healed in approximately a year. Any truth to this?
Thuggish Posted July 1, 2003 Posted July 1, 2003 no. your lungs do not heal themselves- the damage smoking has done to them (the little tiny air sacs that there are thousands of that actually collect the oxygen to put into your blood that have burst from smoking) do not grow back. theyre gone. i dont know about feeling recovered or anything like that, but your lung capacity can never be what it could have been after smoking. it is possible for some to (after stopping smoking) get their cardiovascular system into good enough shape that it seems better than before you even started smoking, eventually. but the damage done is done and nothing can change that. a broken arm throws no punches
