karatekid1975
No way! It's just the beginning. Here's a saying that my old instructor from TSD used to say: "Color belts learn the basics, black belts learn how to USE the basics." Laurie F
Guest
A school that doesn't teach you how to use the information given to you, at any level be it sho dan or ju kyu isn't teaching properly. If I went to a school and they told me that I had to pay 36 more tuition payments before I am taught to use the basics then I'd find another school. Oh yeah ... and sho dan isn't the end. It's on to ni dan after that
Sho-ju
Funakoshi himself was only a 5th dan. Black belt is not the marker everyone thinks it to be.
G95champ
No read Funakoshi's 20 preceps one of them says it takes a life time to learn karate and then you are not done. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."

GrrrArg
I'll let you know when I get there...but I suspect that its just the begining of the start of the begining of the begining of the begining, you get the picture.
Kirves
When you are below black belt, you are a student of the art. When you are a black belt, you practice the art. Would you want to stop just when you learned the basics so you could start practicing?
