Dragonias
Hello, Here is a poll about a certain club i will not mention, how ever those who are with it will know what im talking about. Well this club recruited people that had only just got there 9th kyu and they gave them sensei belts, these people then went out to try to teach people of a far greater level than themselves, and when trying to teach what they know ( of which is very little ) make mistakes and look foolish. So What Would U Call The Club? Dont Get Me Wrong, Im Not Saying the club is a bad club, just the way certain regional sensei's run it. So would u agree with me when i say its a Mc Dojo? Guest
I would say that whomever's idea this was needs to be fired. The people who got swindled should demand thier money refunded. The students should find a new school.
G95champ
Sounds like a club soon to be going out of business. Only case would a person who has Dan status in another style is asked to teach some classes in a club that he holds no rank in. Sensei status I assume mean teaching? If so this is a bit differant in that I can take a 25 year old gold belt and ask him or her to help out with a sever year old beginner. However if you mean Sensei status as in Black Belt well thats just wrong. Uless its the situation like I said above he or she is teaching another art. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."
hobz
I chose "I don't care" cause really I don't. These people should notice the first second they walk in the door that its a joke. Plus let this club keep going, they're only making fools of themselves. Rule #1: Play the game to the limit. Damn the consequences.
GrrrArg
Hmm wonder which club your talking about Dragon...the sameone you PM me about and the same one you got my MSN to talk about... Well atleast you didn't trash the entire club. Its good to see someone make the differentiation. I think its c#*p that some RM's let yellow tips teach (unless they are proficient in other styles), fortunately my RM is not one of these and prefers to ask higher graded students to get their black and white belts. Also these *sensei's* don't teach the higher grades, the RM does and he's actually got a REAL BB (don't know what grade exactly, he always wheres a plain BB, has done for years). My instructors not got a BB, but hes been involved in various MA for nearly 30 yrs or so (started boxing in the army at 16) people who have been with the club long enough (like me) choose our instructors carefully and go only with true BB's or black and whites with plenty of previous experience. ...can any guess the club where talking about yet? Oh and G95 the club has something like 40,000 members in 3 continents so it doesn't look like its going out of business anytime soon. Which is a good thing because apart from the LOW grade sensei's present in some areas its a really good club.
Dragonias
GrrrArg I agree with u that it is a very good club, just that when the Regional Senseis Take over a region, some are there because they want to b, and other are there because they think they can get rich quick, which is why they get yellow tips to put on the sensei belt G95champSensei status I assume mean teaching? If so this is a bit differant in that I can take a 25 year old gold belt and ask him or her to help out with a sever year old beginner. when i say given sensei status i mean, they put on a black belt with out any prior experience in teaching or learning in that style and in many cases this is there first time in a MA club and they are given a sensei belt and a class to teach at 9th kyu level, so the regional senseis can pocket a profit Yours In Budo

CheekyMusician
Oh my word! A 9th Kyu should not be teaching and should not be being put in a position of authority. I mean, fine, a 9th Kyu could help out a beginner if the beginner was stuck and they happened to know what the beginner was doing wrong. I mean, there's nothing wrong with that. I firmly believe that everyone in a club should help everyone else in that club whenever they're able to, but a 9th kyu should be a beginner themselves. They should only be starting to learn, and should not be teaching at all. Smile. It makes people wonder what you've been up to.

telsun
These charlitans only further damage the downward view of karate by the public. Clubs run in this way do more to damage our art than to promote it. It makes me sick I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"
