Protect that groin.

Recommended Posts

Beginners, I can't stress enough the importance of purchasing a quality groin protector (cup, etc.). I got one with the rest of my gear thinking that if I ever decided to attend the BJJ taught at my Muay Thai school I would really need it. Well I never have taken the time to go to the BJJ class, but have been wearing it to my Muay Thai class to get used to it and "just in case". Well, on Monday night I took three separate shots to the groin off of poorly executed foot jabs during some friendly training drills. If you spar or train with a partner, a groin protector is an absolute must.

It's actually good to wear a cup for the entirety of class! You never know what might happen during partner drills, etc.

I've been really stressing this to my students lately.

A lot of guys tend to think that they can "take the pain", but I tend to think that a major trauma to the groin can increase risks of testicular cancer, as well as put a man at risk for impotency.

So wear your protection!!

I was wearing one and in my sparring my partner kicked me  but luckily i was wearing it because it broke his toe... so lucky me :D

The amateur shoots his hands out ferociously, but lacks any true power. A master is not so flamboyant, but his touch is as heavy as a mountain.

Hi,

I began taking Kenpo in June. I've been wearing a cup since July (smart move, I'm sure!) It is a full jock strap with cup included, brand is "Pro Force."

However, even with the cup, a low blow still feels devastasting. Not quite the level of "I'm going to throw up," but the level of "I can't move, and will never walk again." (There is a fine distinction, I believe)

Is this normal? If not, what should I do about it?

Thanks,

El Loco

^^ fairly normal, infact I would be more worried if getting kicked "down there" didn't hurt like hell and knock you out of your stride for a bit. I normally have to re-learn how to breathe afterwards, and lo-grades do so love getting that one kick in there...of all the ones not to block..

Well, thoses guys may be pretty arrogant, but there is a bit of truth to it. Groin pain is something that usually eats away at spirit and comfort, it is not usually a knock out blow. I may not be a volunteer in this case, but if someone hits my groin in the street, and he doesn't do anything else to put me out of commission - that person will go away on an ambulance gerny thinking that me and my adrenalin is hell on earth.

Getting kicked in the nuts hurts, but also p*sses you off and releases adreneline. It seems getting kicked in the nuts just means it's butt kickin time.

If you can't laugh at yourself, there's no point. No point in what, you might ask? there's just no point.

Many people seem to take Karate to get a Black Belt, rather than getting a Black Belt to learn Karate.
