Thugs are a lot like hyenas and vultures they never go after a strong and agressive animal they tend to prey on the weak.

90% of people will try and avoid a fight. The other 10% are thugs.

I think that when faced with thugs one should be agressive make a mean face when your fighting look mad with each hit and make some sort of angry noise. Making yourself look angry and hit angry give you a psycholgical edge. Hitting agressive does not mean you are out of control.

Now saying that many thugs have been surprised by a calm little old man whos well experienced in a martial way.

Learning to control agression is difficult at first, a good way to learn is to practice sparring with someone who is a better fighter then you. Make a rule that you can only target a certain area and your partener has more freedom.

An example would be you can only use body shots however the other person can use body and head shots. The other person having more selection combined with the more skill is going to make you frustrated, and your gonna be tempted to use some head shots when you start to lose, the point at which you decide not to use the head shot and try another body shot you learn control.

Stone, how many "thugs" have you faced? These "thugs" you are talking about seem to ENJOY fighting. So, when they meet someone who act strong and agressive, it seem to me they would naturally perfere to fight the person who acts cocky and agressive.

If someone is picking a fight with you, and you act like you are angry and agressive, do you think they are going to back down in front of all their boys, and admitt they fear you? NO! They are going to fight, and they might even grab a weapon. They are going to fight, "thugs" or not, must guys have to much pride to pic ka fight, then back down like a pussy. They will go thru with it, unless you give them a way out. You can act confandant, act in controll and brave, but don't act like you are angry with them. Even if you give them a way out, when you are acting like Mr. Tough guy, they might see it as an act of pity on your part, and get pissed off at you! Stand streight, speak in your most commanding voice, smile, then say something along the lines of "Come on, Bro, you don't want to brawl in front of all the people, in the hard, unforgiving asfalt. Let me buy you a drink." Don't laugh, I've done it before.

You don't need act argessive to fight. The angry fight starts the fight, the calm one finish it.

No, never. Maybe it is just that this is a town full of rednecks and cowboys, who honestly think they CAN beat everyone up, or maybe I just haven't been in enough true street situations, but I've never seen person A pick a fight with person B, person B stands up to him, and person A backs off. It sounds like you have been watching to many episodes of "Leave it to Beaver!" The dad will sit his son down "Now, son, you know what? Bullies are just cowards! Stand up to him, and he will back down." Bullcrap, Bullies are Bullies because they pick on people they know they can beat. Most "thugs" who pick fight do the same thing, pick fights with people they know they can beat. Maybe they are cowards, but if they are brave enough to pick a fight with you, they are brave enough to fight you. Showing agression is what they want, they are picking to fight to make you mad and mad you fight, they will mock you and keep coming.

I disagree I think you being scared and intimidated is what they want not you standing up to them.

exactly if you stand up to them the thought crosses there mind

Can I beat him?

Bullies will always pick on guys they can beat, and beat easily.

If you said okay lets go. The bully would probably say "nah im not gonna waste my time with you"

A person who doesnt fight a thug is gonna get beat down anyways. A person who fights the thug may beat the thug or the thug will back down.

Bribing a Thug not to hurt you is great deal for the thug he still gets something out of you even if he doesnt get to hurt you.

I'm a pretty passive guy, but sometimes enough is enough. The thing i hate most is to hear people talk mess. I play basketball a lot aside from doing tae kwon do, and believe me i hear more trash talking in one day than i used to in a year. Many people just like to fill their own sails to make themselves feel better...usually it's to make up for something they're lacking. Usually i just let them talk and let them run out of steam or shut them up by shutting them down defesively or offensively (gamewise). But sometimes for whatever reason, something clicks inside of me and i throw the ball at the wall or close to the person's head and just start walking towards them and tell them to shut the up...usually they will. I've found that if you make someone feel as if you're in control and you own your surroundings and that they're trespassing or violating your space, you'll usually have the upper-hand and really make them think that they dont have as good of a chance to take you on as they first thought.

I think that you underestimate a 'thug'.

A bully is someone that picks on the weak. A thug is someone that will get into a scrap at the drop of the hat. He will probably have a bit of fighting skill, usually boxing and street (a style in it's own right and maybe the most devastating).

With the bully you may get away with the show of aggression to make him back down. But with the thug he will see you as more of a challenge and will take more pride it beating the cr*# out of you. The bigger his opponent the greater the victory so to speak.

Never underestimate a thug.

I keep asking God what I'm for and he tells me........."gee I'm not sure!"

a thug and a bully are more alike then they are differnt.

And so the thug does challenge you and you whoop his a$$. The next time that thug gets into a fight and someone stands up to him hes gonna remember that time he got his a$$ kicked and second guess himself.

Say your sitting in the bar and this one guy comes up to you smacks you in the back of the head and says "Hey thats my seat!" and you stand up turn around dont see anyone untill you look down. The guy who just smacked you is about a foot shorter then you and weighs about 100lbs less do you think hes gonna smack you again ? or is he more likely to say sorry I thought you were someone else.

That's a good metaphor. People can pick up the subtle hints that the person they're facing may be "huge", or at least a damn sight bigger than they expected.

Thugs or tough guys don't always pick on weaker people. Some just like to fight. Where I live, some just like to pick up fights in bars to act tough and probably prove to themselves they are MALES - a real man - ridiculous you say and I agree, but some people are just plain stupid and enjoy beating the crap out of someone just to speak about it with their other primates, and have the reputation of a tough guy. In big cities I'm sure this is not the same, but in place of 60 000 people like where I live you get to know the toughs and they like it. Luckily enough, every man meets his challenge and gets defeated, you just don't always know who your picking on
