Start with learning a 360 roundhouse kick. Once you can land land consistently then start working on the 540. Basically it is a 360 but you land on the kicking leg-it takes a lot of rotation of the hips and speed. As an exercise you can practice regular round house kick landing on the kicking leg. Caution:this can be very hazardous to your knees!!!! If you don't know how to do 360 round: Start in a defensive stance-twist as if you are going to do a back kick but continue around. At the same time bring your rear leg through-brushing the top of your foot on the floor-and point the knee at your target. From this point-jump as if doing a front jump kick and bring the other leg around to kick. Is this confusing? I wish I could show you!! Hint: whatever leg you have leading in the defensive stance is the one that kicks.

I would work on ya jumping as well. strength in the calf will give the the extra height in your jumps.

as i can do a 360 easy as as i can jump high.

Never tried a 540 tho might give it a go.

As i pratice doing a jumping 360 back kick the leg i jump off is the leg i kick with.

what about that impossible 1080 i think it is called. you must have to be tall to do that kick so that probaly rules me out. and what about the spinning round kick, heel into a nother kick all in the air.

falcon kick!!!

why do you have to be tall?

The 540s and 720s are excellent kicks for demonstrations. You have to have a very well defined body that to perform them with accuracy. I dont know who invented these kicks but I do not that kung fu was probably the first to do 540s and the Koreans were the first to do 720s because I remember back when a 720 was done in competition over in Korea then it appeared in aot of martial arts magazines "Martial Art's New Kick" I beleive the title of one of the articles. Since then I ahve seen them appear inso man competitions. You can get alot of power with the 540 as long as you can kick good and have good hip rotating power. I have seen Koreans knockout people in sparring with the 540 and also break slabs of concrete with that same kick. So the power is there you just have to want it. There is a great video by Turtle Press.com called "Aero Kicks" and they teach you how to do all the demonstrationo kicks as well as 540 and 720. Also if any of those here ahve kazaa go to video and typ ein Taekwondo Hyung Kim you will get a video of alot of dmeosntration kicks including the 540 and 720.

the trick to these kicks is to get your head around fast, pick a spot focus on it and when you spin try not to let your eyes off that spot as much as possible.

also, i believe that John Valeria was the first to do a 720 in an American tournament.

Those licks must be really hard to pull off, 720 degrees spin! It is like aan over the top Kung Fu film. e.g. Crouching Tiger hidden Dragon.

Are these kicks performed in midair?
