eanels68 Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 What does everyone think? I have been doing Okinawan Kempo for about 2 months now, but I am also trying to lose some weight and I am successful in that with my diet, but for the resistance and toning training. I am thinking of using the Total Gym. I have heard good things about it. Does anyone have any experience in it or what do they think about it. Erik
Tombstone Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 I've been thinking of buying a Total Gym. Like you I've heard good things about it but I don't know anyone that has one. Mind sending me a personal message with your feedback on it if you get one? Good luck.
Tibby Posted June 8, 2003 Posted June 8, 2003 They are a waste of time and money. No Body Builder used them like the Commercial says. Real Strength Athletes make jokes about gear like that! We have one at my gym, for one reason, My gym is a Hospital gym that is used by the physical therapy patents, they use total gym for rehabilitation. Save your money for a gym membership, bro, that is my advice. Nothing can replace iron. I’ve “play with it” at the gym, just to see if it is any good. The only thing it is good for, when I’m training someone who can’t get pull ups in good form, I have them use that at the highest incline till they get stronger.
Kev70 Posted June 10, 2003 Posted June 10, 2003 You may want to consider a Crossbow/Bowflex. I bought a Crossbow and have had decent results with it, it works out about as much as the Bowflex and is much cheaper. There is no substitue for pushups and freeweights though.

No much in the way of strength. There is no substitue for pushups and freeweights though. Amen! No truer words have been spoken about Resistance Training.
Tombstone Posted June 11, 2003 Posted June 11, 2003 I agree with what was said but there's nothing wrong with a good early morning workout on a personal gym And if toning is your thing, I don't see why a personal gym would be that much of a problem.
Tibby Posted June 11, 2003 Posted June 11, 2003 Yeah, your right, if all you want is toning, and you train hard, nothing wrong with the Blowflex, or the soloflex, or the crossbow.
Thuggish Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 forget the immitators, bowflex is good. but not for gettin big. toning, sure. but hey, if you want to lose weight and get your body into shape, just go running. cardio exercise is the only way to go- be it biking, running, tae bo, aerobics off of some old cindy crawford video, whatever. get that heart beating for half an our or more, then youll see some good results. pushing yourself is the key. a broken arm throws no punches
