glingglo Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 i'm going nuts. i'm finding that i can't stand all the food that my family eats because it's so high in fat and carbs. i live at home and the stuff my parents keep in the house is not very healthy. (it's not that bad either, but i'm not a meatloaf and mashed potatos kind of girl) my parents are great and have offered to add things i like to the grocery list, but i never have time to cook and i don't know what to tell him to get. sometimes they'll bring home carrots or something and i'll much on those for like 12 straight days, and suddenly i can't stand the taste of them anymore and don't know what to replace them with. my favorite things to eat are sushi and thai food. i could also eat fruits and nuts till they came out of my ears. but i can't have that stuff all the time (i'd probably get bored with it anyhow), and it's expensive. i don't know what to do... i just don't LIKE anything anymore. i'm sick of salad, i'm sick of eating fresh veggies as a snack, i'm sick of eating CEREAL for dinner all the time because i can't think of anything else i'd have time for. and eating lunch at work is a nightmare. i can never think of anything to pack but then i get here and realize there's nothing around me but mcdonalds and wendys (and if i eat one more salad from wendy's i'll lose it!) any suggestions? i'd greatly appreciate them. i'm eating a lot less than i should be because nothing ever sounds appetizing anymore, and it's getting harder for me to train. i never have any energy anymore because i don't have enough fuel in my body. and i don't want to eat a bunch of fat and carbs to feel full - i want to put GOOD things in my stomach. i just don't know what! thank you for putting up with my ranting. i probably not as calm as i normally would be because i just ate taco bell for lunch and feel thoroughly disgusted with myself.
IAMA_chick Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 jeez, you have a problem. i love food. i eat it when i am bored, depressed, hungry, or when it looks good. lol. look things up on the net to see what you could eat or make. Tae Kwon Do15-years oldpurple--belt
SaiFightsMS Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 You might want to look into some of the meal type shakes available or something like a powerbar to carry for lunch.
JKTT Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 First off, Carbohydrates are the human body's #1 energy source. In other words, they are very good for you. The only carbs you should avoid are those from artificial sugar sources (candy, soda, etc.), and those from starchy foods like pizza or potatoes. Second, you need to vary the foods you eat each day. Don't just eat carrots for a whole day, you need to organize your day. Do something like fruits and cereal in the morning, eat nuts, grains, fruits or vegetables during the day, and during the evening eat your thai food and more vegetables. That's only an example. Just eat a variety of foods and your appetite should come back. If not, then I wish you good luck.
ZR440 Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 Yeah, take a cooking class somewhere. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
karate_woman Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 Some things you haven't mentioned that might fit the bill are chicken fajitas and stir fry (chicken or beef). You could also grill chicken breasts and eat them with whatever you want - baked potatoes, rice, brocolli, spinach, asparagus, squash, etc. The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. -Lao-Tse
Tibby Posted June 5, 2003 Posted June 5, 2003 In weight lifting, a lot of guys have this problem. We have a eat right, but we sometimes don’t have the time to cook. We need High Protein and high carbs meals for body building and energy building. I’d advise you check out Tuna, a Body Building staple. Pop a can open, and eat up! Try lunch meat! Or beef jerky! If you are bored with eating veggies, then eat fruits! Apples, bananas, etc. If you are going to take SaiFightsMS advise, make sure you get a good brand of shake. They have some seriously crappy brands out there, keep a look out.
glingglo Posted June 5, 2003 Author Posted June 5, 2003 thanks everybody... i think i seriously might look into protein shakes and whatnot. i guess i just don't like food. it's so weird... at least if i could eat a power bar or something for breakfast and lunch, i would only have dinner to worry about. if i had my own place and had time to cook, i'd try to get more creative and make stuff, but it's kinda hard to work around my parents in the kitchen when they're making food for the rest of the family, and i'm barely home anyway. (i get off work at 5, home at 5:30, grab something to eat and get to the dojo by 6:15, and don't get home again till 9:30 most nights) thanks again!
