spongebob Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 This ones for the ladies.... I would say that I'm not overweight, infact much thinner than most ladies, however, the fat that I do have is not spread evenly. The fat on my body seems to distribute itself in ugly dimply pockets resembling orange peel. And yet I'm kinda thin. I think I'd rather be fat and smooth than skinny and dimply. Forget the creams, I know they don't work. I think there's some genetics going on here because my mother and sister have the same problem. What about diet? Is there any kind of diet changes that could help? Live, Love, Laugh
glingglo Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 unfortunately, the only way to reduce cellulite is to reduce your body fat altogether. there's no way to target it directly. it's caused by these little bands of connective tissue that run perpendicular to the surface of the skin, and it's basically the same effect as in a quilted down comforter - you get little puffy pockets of fat instead of one smooth sheet. you can reduce the appearance of cellulite by building the muscle underneath it and by getting rid of the fat itself. i've heard of some massage techniques that actually break up those little bands, but it looks painful and leaves extensive bruising for quite a while. they say 90% of women have cellulite, so at least we're in good company!

glingglo Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 yeah, pretty much. i remember there was a segment about a year ago on Good Morning America where one of their reporters went to have it done. she was happy with the results, but she admitted it really really really hurt. they showed this woman "massaging" her legs - she was applying loads of pressure and squishing around the fat. i imagine it WAS effective - but i don't think my butt is worth the effort! they showed the bruising too - NOT pretty.
