IAMA_chick
what type of things do you all do at your promo tests? what breaks, etc? also, how is it ran? j/w. first we say the pledge, then we warm up and some people stand up while others sit down. then we do our fundamentals, forms, self-defense and one-steps. next is terminology, sparring, and finally breaking. G95champ
Test days Those being tested are the only ones in class. Class it closed to anyone of a lower rank than that being made. Students must warm up by themselves or together but not formal beginning to class is given. Test consists of Basics 1. Punching - Strikes 2. Blocking 3. Kicks 4. Combos of these mixed up. Stance, Hips, Focus, are always watched. Sparring or Self Defense (differant each test) 1. 3 step 2. 1 step 3. free style 4. multi attackers 5. weapons Kata Oral Q and A session. We do nto break or have physical fitness requirments like 100 set ups in x amout of time. Thats about it. (General George S. Patton Jr.) "It's the unconquerable soul of man, and not the nature of the weapon he uses, that ensures victory."

kilo
We dont test we Demonstrate! Fancy word for test I know but its what we do. Everone lines up on the side of the mat in order or rank. Then Tori and Uke face each other and Sensei will call out what form to start with. You just keep going from there. King of Fighters
We have no testing or belts. Like the old muay thai saying "the belt is in the ring".

kchenault
We are only taught at the current belt level. We do basics, then forms, then one or three step sparring, then sparring, and end with oral Q&A. Then you find out a couple of days later whether or not you passed. We actually had some people fail this last time around. It was very encouraging to see that. IAMA_chick
ouch. that sucks when people fail. i feel bad for them esp. if they just forgot b/c of being on the spot. i have never been to a test where someone has failed, but that would suck.
