It takes sacrifice to be the best.

There are always two choices, two paths to take. One is easy. And its only reward is that it's easy.

it is just an aspect of martial arts not actual combat...its for sport and entertainment only...this includes modern "full contact" olympic taekwondo..which is nothing more then point fighting with a little more contact

I would like to apologise. I read the new rules for kumite and found that you can score points without actually touching the opponent, in areas such as the neck.

To be truthful, thats a load of BS!!! How can you score a point without actually touching the opponent.

And yes, its juts like a glorified game of tag.

I am late on this topic but here are my thoughts.

I love point sparring. It is as you say a great way to build upfitness and co-ordination and speed. It is also very fun, even if you are against a 7foot tall bodybuilder.

It is even more fun to fight against somebody with control.

Sparring is first made up in Japan.

Sparring's a tough weapon.

point sparing is good as a sport - but not realistic. Real fights are over in about 2/3 seconds. (just my opinion)

I belong to the PKC in Indiana, and point fighting is fun. However, the judges are horrible. Last tour., I got a center judge who is blind in one eye. I don't really like kata and weapons in tour., but fighting in tour. gives you a chance to fight people outside your dojo, which is always fun.

Point sparring came from the axiom that any hard strike from a karate guy will end any fight. Well.. now that we knwo the axiom is false.. the point sparring people still play the game, for unknown reasons. Maybe it's fun. Maybe it's to give them some kind of competition because they would lose in fullcontact events. Who knows?

Just kick 'em, they'll understand.- Me
