PhilM1 Posted March 31, 2003 Posted March 31, 2003 I mentioned my shoulder being hurt before and i have treated it a copule times and fully relaxing the muscle. I pulled either my Humorus or my Delt late last year id say late november early december. everytime i would do a work out my shoulder would start to hurt so i would have to take it really easy. so ive been resting it and im getting out of shape. should i start working out again or keep resting my shoulder? fight til you die
Maestro Posted March 31, 2003 Posted March 31, 2003 well, what kind of exercise is it that hurts your shoulder? Is it weight lifting, punching, anything, what? It all depends on the injury. If it was a pulled muscle, then you should take it easy and ease your way back into exercise. Don't do highly dynamic exercises like punching, start off with very light, slow exercises to SLOWLY build back up the strength in the muscle. If you just jump right back into your normal routine you will likely re-injure it. Take it very light and you should find the strength coming back. Meanwhile, try to find something you can do that doesn't hurt the shoulder to stay in shape in the meantime--jogging maybe, sit-ups, crunches, leg exercises, you get the idea. A tiny bit of pain in the muscle is maybe OK, but if it is hurting enough to force you take "take it really easy," then you shouldn't have been doing that exercise to begin with. Might as well take my advice--I don't use it anymore.
SaiFightsMS Posted March 31, 2003 Posted March 31, 2003 You need to get your shoulder properly evaluated. Then a sports med specialist can show you the proper exercizes to help with your problem.
PhilM1 Posted April 1, 2003 Author Posted April 1, 2003 yeah thats what i figured, that day i was doing tricep pull downs (which hurts it) lots of bench, military press and leverage bar ( i think thats the name). on the leverage bar is when i felt it rip or whatever it did. im starting to get really worried, its been almost a couple weeks now. im too afraid to see if it still hurts.i think i may need to go see a doctor. im afraid he might say, just rest it, and that will be it. fight til you die
SaiFightsMS Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 The first time I tore a rotator cuff I didn't take the time off. Big mistake; it got to the point where I could not raise my arm at all. What could have been a few weeks of time off turned into a process that took like 5-6 months to get over.
WolverineGuy Posted April 2, 2003 Posted April 2, 2003 I have tendonitis in both shoulders...every once in a while, I have to take a week or so off. That really sucks, but since tendonitis is an overuse injury, there's not a lot I can do about it. Usually it only occurs when I'm going all out in sparring, getting ready for a tournament or something like that If you felt a rip, you REALLY need to see a doctor. If its just a dull pain...you still should see a doctor, but doing the heat compress/ice pack alternation works for me, along with some ibuprofen. SaiFightsMS Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 And be careful with the ibuprofen, and any other NSAID, they can be very hard on the stomach. Never take them on an empty stomach.
WolverineGuy Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 Oops, thanks for the addition...heh, this is why I'm not a doctor...me all giving out drugs. "Here boy, THIS'LL make you feel better. MUAHAHAHAHAHA..." er...something like that. Wolverine1st Dan - Kalkinodo"Shut up brain, or I'll stab you with a q-tip""There is no spoon."
ZR440 Posted April 3, 2003 Posted April 3, 2003 I wish I had you for a doctor! Everytime I go to the doctor with an injury (about twice a year) they just tell me to ice it and take some Motrin. I have friends that get a paper cut and they get massages and painkillers, but not Steve...oh no, not him. If he's been putting up with the pain for the past week he can't be that bad off heh heh heh! Hell, I didn't even go to the doctor for my rib and shoulder sprain last month. Instead I went to my chiropractor ( I trust him more) to have him make sure I didn't do too much damage. You know what he told me? Take some Motrin and ice it. I give up. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
