Yeah well I need somthing to work by biceps, and unfortuneatley at this stage of fitness I'm not able to do pull ups. Would putting some books or something in my shcool bag and using it(it's about 30 pounds) as a dumbell?

Curls (with dumbbells) are the most effective for bicep building. Pullups work the upper back.

Check out this link for a the full range of dumbbell exercises:

I also bought Weight Training for Dummies based on a recommendation from another weight training site. I highly recommend this book.

Anyway, I think you might find doing curls with a school bag full of books a little challenging.

yea i've tried using other objects as free weights .. like a 3 gallon water bucket .. but its hard because you dont get a good grip on it and good posture for your wrists.

I agree with robwilliams.

Get yourself a book or enlist the help of a qualiifed person in order to show you correct form. You can cause injury by lifting improperly ... and improper objects!

Invest in some free weights .. really they are not expensive.

A good way to build a weight set is to get handles and weight plates separately. Find a sporting goods store that sells weight plates individually. Buy plates to go with your dumb bell handles as you can. Try to always buy 4 plates at a time of the weight denomination you are buying.

That is how I built my set.
