Neil Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 Matt Furey and many many wrestlers talk about low carb diets, and the total restriction of starchy carbohydrates like pasta, potatos, pizzas, rice, bread and so on. The emphazis is on lean protiens, fruit and vegetables. Basically eating only natural foods that you can either pluck from the tree or the ground or get from an animal. I tried this diet yesterday and did not eat any starchy carbs for 24 hours. Today in the morning I was so hungry I couldn't help my self and had some cereal (high carbs!). But I have to say I felt brilliant. I felt really strong and light and I felt I had a lot more control over my body. But is this diet good in the long run? I have to say, the fitness pioneers who disrigared science seem to be right about everything. Probobly coz like me they like to try things out rather than theorize and think about it.
ZR440 Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 No, this diet is not good for anyone. Depriving yourself of pizza can cause irreversable side effects. I think that Dr Atkins diet shuns high carbo foods like that. I'm sure it's true within reason. But there is no way I would give up pizza and beer just because someone who trains 8 hours a day says the extra carbos are bad. They don't know how to enjoy life. It's happy hour somewhere in the world.
shotochem Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 Ive tried a radical concept....... I eat less excercise more. When I eat I pretty much eat what I want only I cut my overall junk food consumption by 80%. This has enabled me to lose 50lbs and keep it off for over 3yrs so far. Its simple but it has worked for me. Avoid the second portions the beer and that chocolate cake Well, maybe a small piece... Pain is only temporary, the memory of that pain lasts a lifetime.
KickChick Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 "Moderation"!!!! Carbs don't make you fat! All things equal, (insert the word....moderation) overconsuming fat and total calories will make you fat. Radically overconsuming carbs, however, such as getting more than 70% of your calories from carbs, has been shown to increase your risk of developing diabetes . Yet not getting enough carbs can place your muscle gains, metabolism and energy at risk.
Neil Posted March 13, 2003 Author Posted March 13, 2003 Actually its scientifically proven that carbohydrates put f=on more calories than fat does. And you don;t need scientific research to determine that! After a large pasta meal you feel really bloated and tired, but compare that to a chocolate cake and you don't feel anything like that. protein is for muscle mass and strengh. But remember you still get carbohydrates from some vegetables and some diets totally restrict andy carbs! This diet only restrics starchy carbs. But the results are phenominal! You can still enjoy your diet without having the los of energy, lack of concentration, weight gain and that feeling of lerthigicness.
