kchenault
Man are you asking for lots of posts. You might try just searching the site for what you are looking for. Type in self defense or combat and the like. But I am sure there will be lots of recommendations from all around here. Good luck in your search, and let us know what you find. Also, welcome to the forums. Pilsung! Ken ChenaultTFT - It does a body good!
jiu-jitsu fighter
https://www.graciejiu-jitsu.com carlson gracie+his son are legends in brazilian jiu-jitsu, if i was there(chicago) that would be the first place i would want to train at. bjj and some muay thai would be what your looking for(im assuming) because your description of what you want is very broad, but also look for, jeet kune do schools, jkd is a very well rounded style(excuse me not a style forgot to mention, bjj incoporates throws, takedowns chokes, and joint locks to disable you opponent and mt uses kicks, punches, knees and elbows, good luck "When we go to the ground, you are in my world, the ground is the ocean, I am the shark, and most people don't even know how to swim"
BKJ1216
I'm not really looking for it for self defense but what do you all think of shudokan karate to defend youself ont he street. White Belt- Shudokan Karate
ninjanurse
Shudokan, in my experience, is heavy on street self defense techniques. A good choice for someone interested in traditional martial arts too! You might also check around for a school that teaches the LYNX system of self defense. theswarm
if someone 'jumps you' that means they have what... jumped on you physically? then i'd be looking at aikido/judo/jiu jitsu/ brazillian jiujitsu - an adept at these arts would have them on the ground pleading for mercy jumps in front of you demanding a wallet, probably the same above arts but i'd say wing chun kung fu, karate, i suppose any art will help you any martial art is better than no martial art that being said if self defence is your only reason for doing a martial art you could save yourself the money and buy a gun
