BlueDragon
I think no one has the right to order another around if they are not a student of thiers. It's probably my fault for not being clear. What they were doing was ordering them to move out of the way at the registration desk. Also a belt test first of all should be free but that will never happen. Secondly the test should be lasting for weeks before the actual test begins as one day can't judge a person's progress. Well that's my opinion but god knows things will never change. "Excuse me while I kiss the sky" -Hendrix
DarkMonkey
I was at a training today in Everton with Sensei Cherry and Sensei Frank Brennan. I wouldn't know how to spell his second name but he is the scariest guy I have ever seen in my life. The point is this: There were about 100 people training and at least 20 black belts under 16 many of them 10 or 11 years old. Of course they were fast and I can't say any of them were crap but I highly doubt that they would actually be able to handle themselves in a real fight, simply because of lateral thinking in conjunction with what you have been taught. That said there was a brown/white strip kid, he looked about seven and he was so fast, he looked like he might have that real natural tallent. So fast I couldn't see his fists they were a blur. It was most impressive. ~The things you own - they end up owning you.
babysteffee
Yeah, I agree with DarkMonkey, a black belt is a black belt whatever the age of the holder...if you say that a kid isn't worthy of a black belt, then neither are the adults really, considering they're subjected to the same routines. It stands to reason that an 11 year old wouldn't really be able to beat an adult in a real fight, but that's not what the belts are about.
thaiboxerken
" If a 16 year old black belt is at a competition, then they have the right to order a 40 year old orange belt around. " Belts don't give anyone the right to order ANYONE around in any place. I'm sorry, but if a 12 year old kid or a 45 year old adult tried to order me around, black belt or not, I would smile at them and tell them where they can go. Since when did belt rankings give anyone a right to order people around? I didn't join another military when I started training in martial arts. No one at the places I've trained orders anyone around except the coaches that train their fighters. I think a "black belt" that is trying to order a person around should go back and look at the virtues of a martial artist again... respect, humility, determination, integrity, discipline and modesty. iamrushman
the incident mentioned above is a sign that the child or children involved do not have the maturity level to hold that distinquished rank....my point being that a true mature black belt would have just waited their turn instead of ordering others to move out of their way to register, instead of so called "pulling rank"....please ........... rushman (karate forums sensei)3rd dan wtf/kukkiwon"saying nothing...sometimes says the most"--e. dickerson
Joecooke007
I know what you all mean. There are some young kids in the dojo that I practice at and they advance like crazy but when I watch them I can see that they just don't get it. jakmak52
I believe sometimes those belts are given due to parental politics and the right amount of moolah Best regards,Jack Makinson
kicker
yes i think that there should be a certain age that you can get black belt or have black belt but not order around anyone when you do your best it`s going to show. SaiFightsMS
Oh wow what a way to start a fight. I have watched and trained with a number of young students approaching black belt hood. Our young black belts earn theirs the same way as our adult students do. And as for attitude problems those usually show up before the black belt is earned. We do not teach bullies. And we do not accept bad attitudes out of anyone. In fact an effort is made to incorparate ways for them to learn to accept the responsiblity of the belt on the way up as they get close in terms of tournament judging and so on. tenguartist
i think the idea of 'kids with black belts' could raise up the question 'how old must a person be to begin martial arts? does age really matter to you people? .:let honor guide your hand:."you won't be alive long enough to remember my name"
