iolair
Anyone else here fence, or do any other kind of European sword training? I started foil and epée at school about 12 years ago, now I just fence epée because I don't like the right-of-way rules in foil and sabre... I fence with a club in Herne Bay, Kent, UK - been in a few competitions at inter-club level where I've done OK. Currently: Kickboxing and variants.Previously: Karate (Seido, Shotokan, Seidokan), Ju Jitsu, Judo, Aikido, Fencing.
Tobias_Reece
I tried fencing years ago at a sports camp (and I mean years ago), and thought it was pretty cool. Never really thought about it though. Nowdays I think its fantastic, even though I've never picked up a foil, epee or sabre since. I just think fencing is a gentleman's sport/martial art. I've always wanted to check out some Buckler/sword combat, that was apparantly popular in Shakespeare times. But, I've just opened my own kobudo school, so I should really be putting all my concentrating into that - but you never know, I might find a spot for the good old english sword. Any enlightenment with information from Iolair would be good though "You Are Never Given A Dream Without Also Being Given The Power To Make It True. Guest
Did you try checking out a College/University close by? There is a Fencing class / club at the one I'm next to and I'm going to take it one day to see how fencing compares to Kendo.
gheinisch
I fenced while in college. I liked it! It was very challenging and a lot more to it then some might think. I never pursued it after college though, I often think back to the fun times however! Chi-Sai
I fenced in college, too, and I loved it! I did foil and epée. You should check out https://www.usfencing.org, https://www.fencing.net, and https://www.fencingfootage.com.
Pacificshore
I fenced in Jr. College which was back-in-the-day . I mainly did foil. I think that my Kenpo training back then helped me plenty when I first started out . I did enjoy it, but have not done any since, plus there isn't anywhere that I know of that offer fencing.
