hermanchauw Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 I am a qualified gymnastics coach and have an aspiration to open a school (with other people of similar aspirations) to train youngsters acrobatics skills for further participation in any stype of sports, including MA. I think acrobatics would make any sportsmen better sportsmen. What do u guys think? No ginga, no capoeiraNo berimbau, no capoeiraNo roda, no capoeira
Looneyas Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 I agree it will give u the upper edge, I did gymnastics for 10 years. I did very well in the sport no state or any high ranking. I can jump higher than most people being 5ft 6, I can nearly dunk a ball in basketball. So gymnastice gives u a lot towards MA. jumping ability, Stretching, balance Just to name a few. Red J Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Flexiblity, balance, coordination, and strength are great things to bring to MA. Good luck. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
ninjanurse Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 We always encouraged participation in gymnastics and/or other sports. My instructor used to say "You won't be able to play football when your old but you'll always be able to do martial arts...so play now!". I think acro/gymnastics is a great compliment to MA for the strength, balance, flexibility, etc. But I also think that MA can compliment acro too-my daughter (a TKD BB) started gymnastics recently and is already in the advanced class...all because of MA (balance, flexibility, strength, etc)! Hmmm...which came first? The chicken or the egg? "A Black Belt is only the beginning."Heidi-A student of the artsTae Kwon Do,Shotokan,Ju Jitsu,Modern Arnishttp://the100info.tumblr.com/
