Maestro Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 Hi everyone. Well, I do lot's of stuff for speed, including weights, sprint starts, plyos, constantly, but I've been doing it all for a while, and I'm beginning to get bored and find things getting easy . So basicly I'm just looking for varieties of speed exercises here, you know, creative, fun stuff. Not looking for generalizations here like "do plyos, plyos are good," 'cause I'm extremely familiar with that stuff, but like, specific excercises that you do and enjoy. Enlighten us all! Thanks! Might as well take my advice--I don't use it anymore.
dratix Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 I'm not sure if anybody else has done this... but i get ankle weights (5 lbs.) and i strap them around my feet AND wrists. I wear bag mits then put the ankle weights around my wrists. I circle around my bag jabbing and crossing, at a good steady pace. I go faster and faster every time I circle around the bag, then I circle around the opposite way and hit faster. I do this for about 10 minutes. I take them off and do it again; you'll see how it is. I do this normally and it is a good way to increase speed and power. "Give me back my sandals or i'm keeping your nephew's hamster..."- Bruce Lee
Rotten Head Fok Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 How about Hakie-sack for eye-foot coordination, a speed-bag work out for eye-hand, and I agree with dratix. Weight, weather it's wrist and ankle, or a ruck sack or a sled while you run; which brings to my mind hills and lots of them. Swimming with weights. How about those ummm dog leads with the springs, you could set up a harness that is attached to a wall or a fence and practice your offensive attacks. You will be pulled backwards when you moved forward, then take it off, try the same moves and I'll bet you get there much faster. You must be stable and balanced in your foot work, if you have to use your martial knowledge in combat, your intent should be to win. If you do strike, you must release great power! The martial arts are easy to learn, but difficult to correct.
The-Muay-Thai-Kickboxer Posted July 21, 2004 Posted July 21, 2004 Throw kicks and punches at candles until you blow 1 out with a punch or a kick but dont touch it. Things do NOT work because someone says they do. They work because YOU can do them!
nitroice0069 Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Do not try to blow a candle out with punches and kicks. By the time you get the speed and wiplash effect to do that you will have lost form. Even worse you can easly tear a muscle in your shoulder or hyperextend you elbow by striking that fast without something to absorb the force. JamEs
ramymensa Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Well it doesn't take that much to be able to blow the candle with punches (foot techniques have even a quicker result). I've tried this as a beginner at my sensei's suggestion. After 4-5 minutes of trying I was able to do the stuff, and my boyfriend too, even if he wasn't doing andy Karate training. Still you should be attentive not to injure your muscles. World Shotokan Karate
granmasterchen Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 here is something that i find effective and very cheap to do.... grab a plastic grocery bag... hold it out at arm length and drop it. kick it with one leg and quickly kick it with the other, make sure that the bag never touches the floor and quickly alternate each leg....i find it fun and interesting especially when the bags get stuck to your feet when you are desperately trying to kick it and maintain concentration....i love watching my students train this way! That which does not destroy me will only make me stronger
aefibird Posted July 23, 2004 Posted July 23, 2004 Good idea granmasterchen, I think I'll try that with my lowe grades tonight. "Was it really worth it? Only time and death may ever tell..." The Beautiful South - The Rose of My CologneSheffield Steelers!
