Blue Posted February 12, 2003 Posted February 12, 2003 This stuff is garbage. Run as far away from it as you can ! Ephedra is nothing but a low class stimulant. Kickchick - would you let or encourage your kids to take this crap ?
KickChick Posted February 20, 2003 Author Posted February 20, 2003 As with anything, it has the potential to be dangerous in "large" quantities for an "extended" period of time. Heat Stroke or Ephedra ... ( or the combination of the two?) or coincidence.... the scare continues with the death of 23 yr. old Orioles pitcher Steve Bechler http://www.nbc6.net/sports/1982441/detail.html
jmy77 Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 (edited) I have a question (more of a statement). It's something I asked myself a while back when I was on creatine and protein.... What ever happened to just working hard and eating right? The human body is an incredible thing. It comes with all of the functions and tools needed to become whatever you want it to. If you eat a lot, exercise more. If your argument is you want better results and your are supplementing your exercise regime, well, to that I say you are lazy and don't want to take you workouts to the next level. This is of course my opinion. When I wrestled I ate small meals many times a day and stayed away from junk food and coke and Pepsi and the like and I never felt so good in my Life. When I stopped (wrestling) some of my friends got me into weightlifting and supplements to enhance my workouts. Well I put on solid weight, was never so strong but I didn't come close to that natural high, the natural energy I had when I wrestled. I took ripped fuel - which made me an edgy person for some reason, I tried creatine which made me very edgy and protein which made my have to go to the bathroom a lot ! I am back to working hard. And I am away from the weights. I am no where near the shape I was in when I was wrestling (nor do I feel the need to be 10% bodyfat) and I am not nearly as strong as my peak with the weights. But I feel great. Sorry, I ramble sometimes... kind of stream of conscious... anyway I ask - what ever happen to old fashioned hard work... Like dzedo (that's grandfather in Slovak) used to say, "Hard work builds character." Mr Heel Hook Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 Yeah, so stop taking it, kickchick! I really worry about you taking it... "A deer admires a lion. But all the members of our family are lions. So it doesn't matter which lion I admire. " -Rener Gracie-
BlackBeauty Posted February 20, 2003 Posted February 20, 2003 As I said in the other thread, I have been taking ECA Stack for about 12 months now. I don't always take it and only take it when I need a boost to my workouts. Something to push me through that little bit more to make me work harder. But with all supplements I ensure I always give my body a break...for example, I take it for 2 weeks then have 2 weeks off. Actually, I haven't taken one in about 3 months so far... ==================http://come.to/BlackBeauty==================
KickChick Posted March 12, 2003 Author Posted March 12, 2003 Okay ... so I did stop taking ephedra-based supplements. (Mr. Heel Hook will be ) In furthering my research I found that ephedra doesn't really help you burn all that much bodyfat anyway. In one study, it was reported that 20 mg of ephedrine burned approximately 12 extra calories over a 3-hour period. (Heck, you could burn that amount of calories taking a shower!) On top of that, at least 75% of the weight loss attributed to ephedrine is a direct result of appetite suppression. That's the absolute worst way to lose weight, as it brings your metabolism to a screeching halt. Typically then, any weight loss is usually water weight. Water loss is not the same thing as bodyfat reduction. Only the loss of bodyfat will dramatically change your physical appearance. Plus, once you stop using ephedra, ...(as I did) you run the risk of quickly returning to your original bodyweight. I didn't gain that much ... hard to say because I have been lifting as well and gaining inches in that way also) I am not looking into this http://www.nutros.com/Nutros/home/campaign/LS73Free.jsp# I will let you know how this works! You may say... well why don't I just watch what I eat? I do.... very much so and train very consistently while employing a weight lifting program.... There is a little known scientific fact. The older you get, past the age of 25, the harder it is to lose fat (and the easier it is to pack on unwanted pounds) around the midsection or hips because the metabolism starts to rapidly decline, which makes your energy levels drop and severely impairs your body's ability to burn fat.
jmy77 Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 "That means you pay only $134.91 (plus shipping and handling) and receive four bottles, an entire 8-week supply of Lean System 7, for the price of three (and SAVE $44.97)!! This webiste reads like a Matt Furey Marketing job! Save your money! Don't mess with nature! Leave Your metabolism alone!!!! What are the long term effects of artifically pumping up your metabolism? You wanna lose bodyfat - burn more calories than you take in! Yeah, it's hard to burn fat, to have 6-pack abs and 10% body fat - but that is why it such an accomplishment. KickChick Posted March 12, 2003 Author Posted March 12, 2003 well, fortunately I don't have to "pay" that much. but yes, it is pricey............ Like I said I do "work" at it! I am talking about those last 8 to 10 stubborn pounds that seem to stick like glue or those last few inches that cling to your belly. Unfortunately jmy77, there are factors that are beyond our control ... such as age and genetics.
jmy77 Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 I, in no way, meant to insinuate that you are not a hard worker. Sorry if i did. Believe me I know about those last inches. Before I got a desk job I was 180lbs of twisted steel (toot! toot!) My weight shot up to 215! The six pack was looooonnnnngggg gone! I am down to 200lbs but can't get past that barrier. For me though, at 26 I don't feel the need to be 180lbs at 10% body fat, 200 at 17% is okay, just wanna drop to about 15% and I'd be content. Truth is I'd rather bust my hump then play games with these "supplements"? There are just too many unknowns. And I just found that statement in the website particularly amusing...
