BoothJ9
I put this in General Chat as I though it was a book and different bits can be relevant in many different martial arts.I recently purchased the 2016 Patrick McCarthy Bubishi and so far I have been fascinated with almost all of the articles and have had a good time enhancing my bunkai knowledge from the 48 illustrations. For those who have read the book, which sections did you enjoy reading the most?
Shojiko
I'm a little behind in answering, but if you get the chance, look up "old man's bubishi" on Amazon. Another fun Bunkai source!https://www.amazon.com/Oldmans-Bubishi-Introduction-Bunkai-Karates/dp/0985375418/ref=sr_1_11?crid=3D9HGEX7GJ7CU&keywords=bubishi&qid=1657579889&sprefix=bubishi%2Caps%2C130&sr=8-
Zaine
For those that do not want to purchase a book, The Bubishi is in Public Domain, so you can get it for free. Just not with all the fancy analysis from McCarthy. My favorite part, as is usually the case with these types of books, is the history sections. I love knowing where things came from and the philosophical underpinnings that made it what it is today. Bulltahr
The historical parts of where the styles developed is excellent. I enjoyed the Medicinal part also. When I went to China a few years ago and visited Pingyao, (Ancient city) I enjoyed visualizing the practitioners, training in the courtyards of the private security companies that were common then...... Very cool book. "We don't have any money, so we will have to think" - Ernest Rutherford
ryanryu
I was probably most fascinated by the herbal remedies/concoctions/potions.I'd love to know if any of these do anything, and if so, which ingredients are actually doing the work. Two that I'm not holding out much hope for are:"Promoting the Secretion and Flow of Urine Hampered by Trauma to the Testicles"- 6.24 grams Moschus Moschiferus L (man the precision measurements here...)- 5 pond snails- 5 flakes dried lamb stool- 5 stalks allium fistulosum- 3.75 grams Artemesia capillaris Or "An Alternative Treatment for Promoting Urine Flow"- 1 ounce bullrush grass- 1 small bundle bamboo leaves- 1 lump gingerGrind all ingredients together, collect the juice, mix with the urine of a healthy boy under 12 years old, and drink. “Studying karate nowadays is like walking in the dark without a lantern.” Chojun Miyagi (attributed)https://www.lanterndojo.com/https://karatenobody.blogspot.com/
