KickChick Posted January 18, 2003 Posted January 18, 2003 Those cramps that you can get in your side below your ribcage are called "stitches". They are usually caused by shallow breathing. Take very deep breaths so that your stomach expands each time you inhale. Also eat at least 2-3 hours prior to exercise to allow for digestion. Recent research shows sports drinks with a similar particle count to that of blood, like Gatorade is better than juice or soft drinks which may cause stitches. When I get a stitch attack I bend forward while tightening my abs or exhale through pursed lips. ...(like you're whistling)
Red J Posted January 19, 2003 Posted January 19, 2003 Funny thing, I always concentrate on deeper breathing and have avoided those things. However, the other day I ran and forgot to breath and bam, there it was. Good tip KickChick. I had to lose my mind to come to my senses.
BlackBeauty Posted January 20, 2003 Posted January 20, 2003 ...and not drinking too much water at once. just sip it and you won't get these stitches. ==================http://come.to/BlackBeauty==================
