Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

This was just added to Disney+, so we watched it. I thought it was great and a lot of fun. Great to see a new Marvel movie after such a long gap!

I found this article on the martial arts behind the movie: https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/real-martial-arts-behind-shang-chi-and-the-legend-of-the-ten-rings/

Brad Allan, a martial artist, stunt person, fight choreographer, and member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team, passed away following work on the film, and they included a dedication to him in the credits.

He worked on a bunch of movies you are probably familiar with: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brad_Allan

I'm literally sitting down to watch it with my kiddo right now! We're both so excited.

What a fun movie. My kid and I loved it. She immediately starting trying to mimic the moves after the credits.

I got to watch this the other day. Overall, I thought it was an ok movie. The choreography was fun, and kind of a throwback. I look forward to seeing where Shang Chi fits in with the rest of the Marvel universe.

I'd really like to see if they are planning anything with Iron Fist. I know Blade is going to be back soon, and am looking forward to that. I really enjoyed the Wesley Snipes Blade trilogy (actually sat through it last night!), but if I recall, they changed things up on the Blade origin for that trilogy, and in the original comic run, he wasn't half-vampire. So I'll be interested to see what route they take with Blade.

They reintroduced Vincent D'onofrio as Kingpin from the Netflix series, so they certainly aren't shying away from using that material. That said, Iron Fist wasn't as well received as Daredevil, so who knows. It would be cool to see him as part of an ensemble cast. If they were to do the Thunderbolts show or movie, he could fill a roll there like he did in the comics. Iron fist also trained Spider man how to fight in the comics, so he could fill a similar role there as a guest appearance somewhere down the line.

Those would be some interesting things to see. I did like seeing D'onofrio back as Kingpin, and I really hope to see more of him in the future. He's such a great villain throughout the comics, and it'd be a shame to squander him in one series or movie. He should be a Thanos-level villain, and not a one-off.

I thought it was unfortunate, the approach the Netflix version of Iron Fist was taken. I did love Daredevil, and I believe Charlie Cox is still in the fold to play the character again.
