Dustin1978 Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 Hey everyone! When I was a kid I would play basket ball, foot ball, baseball, skateboard and everything else and always feel fine but all my life if I try to weight lift I feel sick after wards. I am 24 now and in terrible shape. I am not over wieght or anything. I am about 6 foot 1 inch tall and onyl weigh about 145 lbs. I have nto worked out in a long long time. My only exercise i have gotten in the past 3 years is skateing but i keep twisting ankles and breakign stuff so I stopped that. Anyway I am now trying to get into at least half way decent shape because I will be starting Kodenkan Jujitsu soon and do not want to look foolish. I am only working out like 10 minutes each morning doign jumping jacks, sit ups, pushups, and soem rapid fast punching. I am not sure if it is the cardio vascular aspect that is making me feel ill or the straining of pushups. I think it is the pushups because on days I skip them I feel fine or at least better. How should I start to train? If I keep feeling sick like this I will not stick with it. Is being sick just something I need to stick out until ti goes away or should I work out a little less? Like I said I am only trying 10 minutes each morning. I do not have any heart trouble to my knowledge but I have just always felt sick when lifting. How can I ease into pushups without feeling so crappy? man all my posts end up being so long! I am sorry guys and gals. Any advice would be great THANKS!
KickChick Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 Exercise can cause low blood glucose levels so your problem could be from lack of food. If you are doing your workouts in the morning, without having breakfast, it may be 10-12 hours since yo had a meal, then you can easily get dizzy & nauseous from lack of fuel. You need to eat a snack if it's been several hours since you've eaten before a workout. Half a bagel, a banana, oatmeal, or toast 30-45 minutes before the workout and you may see a difference Sounds like you're eager to get started quickly, you may need to take it a bit slower until your body gets used to training. You will reach your goal but you need to pace yourself. Cool down slowly after exercising to also avoid feeling sick. Vigorous exercise in non-conditioned people often leads to dizziness or nausea. Overtraining and lack of warm up can also cause it. If your problem continues, then you need to contact your doctor.
Dustin1978 Posted January 17, 2003 Author Posted January 17, 2003 Thanks Kick Chick! I will try all of those ideas! Yeah I try to work out first thing in the AM because I like to get a shower early in the day and also I didn't want to get cleaned up then get sweaty again. I guess I will just start waking up and eating a good well rounded breakfast then wait an hour to digest a bit then do my work out and just take a shower around 11 or so. That is not so bad. I will try that tomorrow or the next day and let you know how it goes. Thanks again for the great info! Take care!
BlackBeauty Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 when i have my MT class on Saturday mornings, i won't eat breakfast, but 2 hours or so prior to my class, I have a protein shake. perhaps you can try this as it won't 'load' you down as much as a real breakfast and gives you all the right nutrients in your system to do a good workout. try to identify when it is that you start to develop that sick feeling, and stop when it happens. also, keep those fluids up - sip water regularly and make sure you are not over-heating where u are exercising... ==================http://come.to/BlackBeauty==================
Tombstone Posted January 17, 2003 Posted January 17, 2003 drink plenty of water. its easy to dehydrate when working out.
