How many Dan levels does your org have?

As question stated above..

How far does your orgs Dan level go as high as? (E.g 15th degree..jk) *you get the point* at what level does the Dan rank become more of an honorary vs technical thing?

9 dans, there are 3 8th dans in our organization, all over 70 years old....

Ours has 9 dan ranks as well.

We've 10 Dan Ranks. NO honorary Dan Ranks. We've Junior Black Belts reserved for students ages 13-18. ALL ranks are subjected to Testing Cycles up to and including Hachidan. Kudan is reserved for the current Kaicho. Judan is reserved for only Soke types; of which, we've abolished in recent years back.

Up to tenth dan as with the majority of Okinawan karate organization. Each dan grade is technical and requires evaluation of some kind. Never heard of anyone being given any grade just because they’d been there long enough. There is no such thing as everyone’s progress is different.

Up to Kudan (10th Degree) as is traditional. The highest technical grade is Godan: a grading where one performs before a panel and is adjudged according to their skills. Again, as is traditional among the systems represented in the organisation, where the systems only have a technical syllabus up to fifth-degree as organised by the founders.

The highest grading I have witnessed is sixth (Rokudan), however, that was done in the manner of observation: the candidate took on teaching duties for the day on the course and was judged by virtue of their capacity to pass on knowledge. They did have to perform a high-level kata at the end and offer technical insight into the kata but that was the lone "performance" aspect of the grading.

As far as I know, Shichidan and above are honourary and given according to contribution to Karate and the Martial Arts.

9th dan for us though 7th is the last rank you physically test for. Nowadays there are quite a few 9th and 8th dans due to how widespread and how long TKD has been going for.

I was told that 3rd Dan is your technical peak or mastery and that godan and up were more for honorary(e.g for contributions to style). I guess it depends on the style. I have seen some 6th degree and up black belts that would probably have trouble with some 5 degree and lower Belts I have trained with from other styles.

Technically 9 Dan levels; however as our CI is a 5th Dan - 5 at the moment

In Kyokushin (at least in the organization that I am part of, the Kyokushin world is quite divided when it comes to organizations), the highest rank you can actually test for is the 3rd Dan. That's where the official curriculum ends. Higher dan ranks are awarded for special accomplishments, which can be either athletic in nature, like winning at international tournaments etc. or more "buerocratil" like heading a national organization etc. The higher the ranks go, the more important that political/buerocratic aspect becomes.

Mas Oyama, the founder of Kyokushin, held the 10th Dan, but he never promotd any of his students to the same level, so since he died, the highest rank has been the 9th Dan.
