Patrick
Obviously, we're seeing a lot of changes as the world tries to flatten the curve on COVID-19. We have threads on what schools are doing to stop the spread and how instructors are coping. So, I thought I would start one focused on your personal training. Your school might be closed or closing soon. What do you plan to do until it reopens? Or what are you already doing? sensei8
As I've always done whenever my dojo was closed; I trained at home. This is what I'm doing now, while my dojo is closed until the end of April. Nonetheless, my OCD has always forced me to always clean the equipment I use during my home training, including its entire given space. Nowadays, I'm much more conscientious towards cleaning/disinfecting any and all surfaces, like, door knobs and the like. Common surfaces that I normally wouldn't be concerned about, even though my workout area is in my own home. I Lysol EVERYTHING and ANYTHING that I touch or might've or will touch(ed) now, more than before; everyday is DISINFECTING day...all day.Psst...I love the smell of bleach!! **Proof is on the floor!!! Radagast
I'll admit when I first got the news of the dojo closing I was pretty bummed out.So I have started doing some fitness exercises to maintain/improve in that regard, and I'm moving almost everything in my garage into a storage unit to set up a home "dojo" complete with a heavy bag (canvas, sadly) and a wall target.I have 18 2x2 sections of flooring. I was thinking of trying 6x12 but I could also do 8x10 with the corners missing. For some reason another pack of the same flooring now costs $70 (I'm pretty sure I paid $15). Nidan Melbourne
Well my dojo has closed for now (which I just mentioned in a new thread). As a result I am doing my own personal training at home. And at the dojo doing my own personal training which means I still have to clean the area after I finish. Also going into the dojo means I can work on my own fitness. sensei8
I've even gone as far as restricting anyone who's access to my dojo from going inside for any reason(s), like, conducting any type of training; this is to ensure the integrity of our last extremely deep disinfecting remains intact. They can practice, which I highly encourage, but anywhere but inside of my dojo. I've camera's inside my dojo, that I've had installed a long time ago so I can view anytime from my cellphone and the like. That's how serious I am during this crisis; to leave no stone unturned. **Proof is on the floor!!!
hammer
My instructor is holding virtual classes using Zoom. Most get in Gis and train. I missed last week but was "there" tonight. Did a lot of stuff that didn't require much movement.Once weather allows (it's snowing right now) Sensei has asked for us to provide videos of kata so he can provide input/advice.Outside of Karate I'm building up my running routine as much as weather and my lungs will allow. Asthma's worsened over the past few years so I can't run as far or as fast, but I'm back up to 10 miles/week and once weather gets warmer I'd like to increase to 5 miles per run. Just need to be mindful of good social separation with the increase in people walking.
bushido_man96
I've not done much of anything since this whole thing has started. If it keeps up, that'll change, and I'll have to start doing something at home. I don't have a lot of room for forms practice, but I can make do with a lot of other stuff. https://www.haysgym.comhttp://www.sunyis.com/https://www.aikidoofnorthwestkansas.com
DWx
Not done much TKD specific training but have been running more than usual and just generally focusing on bodyweight exercises. Will be running online classes from Monday. "Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it." ~ Confucius
sensei8
I've tried virtual classes through Skype in the past, as more of an experiment, but for some reason(s) the network would crash quite often, which interferes with the continuity of the class. Screen freezes just literally drove me CRAZY. So much, that I trashed that experiment faster than I could say "NEVER MIND".I admit I am not computer smart when it comes to things like that. I tried every single suggestions that can down the pipe to correct my concerns with Skype. Students were enjoying the virtual classes, even though they were short lived. Well, at least I tried to do something different. **Proof is on the floor!!!
